Bookends and workflow
I did not want to hijack the earlier Workflow question, so here goes. I have been working on a research project for the past months and obviously Bookends is central to that. In addition I use a very good document indexer that lets me perform all sorts of searches on my pdf collection, including pro...

Re: Text entry into search window
I have rebuilt the database numerous times in the last few years, but obviously not since this problem first reared its ugly head. I have done so now and the problem seems to have disappeared. Wish I had tried that a few months ago when it first started. Anyway, thanks Jon and lets hope it doesn't r...

Text entry into search window
Hi, Am I the only one who has huge problems with text entry into a search window? It is a problem that is not easy to describe but it only cropped up in the last few months (I do not remember exactly when, but I wrote to Jon when I first noticed it) and despite several updates it has not gone away. ...

Setup after Yosemite re-install
Hi, Is there an easy way of getting all my Bookends settings back after migrating to a fresh install of Yosemite (and Bookends). I still have a copy of the old installed version (clone of old boot drive) and looked for a plist file but read here that they contain little of interest. Is there another...

Re: Selecting fields for export
Thanks Jon. I know it supports the opposite, I use it quite a lot. I am hoping perhaps there is a plug in. If not, I can just pretend it is a wordprocessor and insert citations which I could later export and format as required.

Re: Selecting fields for export
I know RTFM! I did and I did try the Option and Commands key drag too. I tried container fields and text fields and asked around on the Filemaker forum (no reply yet). When I drag a ref to any of the above mentioned fields, I can see there is supposed to be something I am dragging but it will not co...

Re: Selecting fields for export
Hi Jon, I'll investigate the RIS options, that sounds promising, but your second solution sounds ideal ... except that it does not look as if Filemaker supports this. When I drag a reference from Bookends to a text field I end up with something like {Underwood, 2004, #51382}. If I highlight the refe...

Selecting fields for export
Hi, I need to export a selection of records from the database to use in a Filemaker database and I haven't the time to retype everything. Bookends will happily export this selection but, as far as I can see, gives me no control over what exactly it exports. Is there a way around that, so I can selec...

Sync selected attachments
First of all, I wish I had bought BOT earlier. I have only been using it five minutes but it is clear it fills a gap and I am most impressed with the speed with which it presents and searches through my 19508 records. With such a large database it is impossible to download all attachments to my phon...

Re: Importing Smart Groups
+1 for support/import of (smart) groups in BOT (Jon's workaround works but should not be necessary. I too was somewhat baffled when I could not select the various groups when importing EXCEPT when I choose a group import only).

Re: Setup question: where are devices?
Thanks but your link was almost as bad as the cryptic message I reported earlier, but that is because of the awfully primitive "User Guide" (the name is really a misnomer). I went to this page before and scrolled down (!!!) quite a bit to find the necessary info. There was nothing. Now I f...

Setup question: where are devices?
I installed BOT lite on my iPhone to check it out. I choose the "Sync" option, then "Add library". It gives me a passcode with the instruction to "open Bookends and select [my]iPhone from the devices list". I presume this refers to a copy of Bookends on my Mac, but I ca...

Re: Feature request: auto sync
That is indeed what I am exploring at the moment using Bittorrent Sync, a program I also use to keep my regular documents in sync. It is too early to say yet whether it works as well as it should, but so far I have not experienced any problems with locked records (I keep two copies of Bookends runni...

Re: Feature request: auto sync
Sorry Jon, but that is precisely my point. Of course I know I can sync manually, that is why I called it such, but my feature request is that it is done fully automatically in real time. It is simply a huge hassle to have to remember to sync all the time, not to mention the fact that the price one p...
