Re: Getting rid of the standalone reference window

Got it (should've known this.) Thanks for the clarification. I withdraw my request to maintain the standalone window.

Re: Getting rid of the standalone reference window

I find the standalone reference window to be much more efficient for entering and editing references. What I particularly dislike about the reference edit pane is that, in edit mode, you can only see the field you are editing. By contrast, the standalone window shows all fields during the editing pr...

Re: Annotating pdfs/extracting highlights as quotes

I do not see this as a feature that I would incorporate in my workflow. BE records are already linked to a PDF file, and the latter contains my notes. Perhaps I am missing something, but I do not see the proposal as a major time or convenience enhancement. I have suggested, some time ago, that a fu...

Re: Does Spotlight search look in pdf annotations?

I use Skim for annotating PDF, and select the option to automatically create a Skim notes file for each PDF; these notes files are searchable by Spotlight (see http://bit.ly/1aUMXGi).

Re: Annotating pdfs/extracting highlights as quotes

It is an improvement in cases in which you have a large number of notes in Skim that you want to import to BE, obviating the need to perform multiple, tedious copy-paste combinations. If the note streams in Skim & BE can be made to sync automatically (as in Skim & BibDesk integration), that ...

Re: Annotating pdfs/extracting highlights as quotes

Perhaps integration with Skim's notes stream would be relatively straightforward to implement? An AppleScript that would copy notes and annotations from an open Skim file and paste them, as separate notes, in BE. Ditto for integration with Preview? BibDesk automatically syncs notes in Skim with the ...

PDF Reader notes

This topic was explored in the forum in the past, but I am not sure of the current status. As far as I can tell, BE cannot display Skim notes, nor can it display .skim note files. BE can display notes created in Preview, but does not index them (cannot search them). Am I correct? What would be parti...

Re: Hierarchical notecards

What kind of (final) look are you looking for I am not too concerned about the 'look' within BE. I would like to be able to collect notes in an outline form, and then export the notes (to Tinderbox, Scrivener, etc) as OPML for writing. Support for MultiMarkdown within Notes would take care of this ...

Re: Hierarchical notecards

I'm not sure what you mean by the hierarchy. I (apparently mistakenly) understood that the hierarchy would have a structure like this: #This is a header ##This is a sub-header This is a note ##This is another sub-header And its note #And another header I suppose I was reading into the proposal more...

Re: Hierarchical notecards

I, too, see the potential in this. It would be *very* useful if the hierarchy could be retained when exporting the notes, preferably as an OPML format.

Corollary of Orphaned Attachments?

I understand that "Remove Orphaned Attachments..." removes an attached file from a reference if the file cannot be located. However, the file remains in the Attachment folder. Is there a way to instruct the database to move files that are not attached to any reference to the Trash or to a ...

Re: Interesting temp solutions until there is BE for iPad

Unfortunately this solution does not permit annotating or taking notes. Papers for iPad has that feature, and syncs notes with the desktop version. However, Papers' note taking (and other features) pale compared to BE's.
