Re: Citations without brackets

In the Formats Manager, you should check if your citation style actually includes brackets for the citation:

Re: Collecting bibliography on the internet

You can use Bookends "Online Search" feature to import webpages into Bookends. I don’t know all the features that Zotoero offers during this import, but Bookends can interpret some of the data on the page to populate the fields for this entry too.

Re: New unified format preview

I also have encountered formatting rules that demand different capitalizations.

Jon’s suggestions for updated terms sound a bit more technical but also a bit more correct… no idea if the simpler versions are better or not…

Re: New unified format preview

Wow! That is an unexpected but really big improvement. Explaining custom citation formats to friends and colleagues was one of the most troublesome support tasks that I have with Bookends. In addition, this makes things much easier for me as well. (As you wrote, sometimes one can lose track and beco...

Support for retina display?

As my old MacBook Pro is now six years old and the fans begin to make strange noises, I scrapped together all the resources that I could muster to purchase the new Retina MBP. It’ll be delivered in about three weeks. To bridge this period of waiting I am now going to harass developers with questions...

Re: Feature Request: Format/Localize dates in bibliography

Sorry, I guess I have misunderstood your query then. But the only thing I really need would be a way to automatically parse dates (which have been entered in one standard way in all references) into these different kinds of layouts. Nothing fancy required. :)

Re: Feature Request: Format/Localize dates in bibliography

I guess for almost all uses that I would encounter, non-word formats would be sufficient: 2012-04-30 12.04.2012 04/12/2012 12/04/2012 (I guess you could just check System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats for all those countries where you have a significant number of customers. The interfa...

Re: Feature Request: Format/Localize dates in bibliography

This is what I am doing too. I enter the date in ISO format in the date field whereever I have it, and for newspaper articles and online access dates I also put it into separate date fields. This is a bit of a hassle, but with so many different standards for writing a date this works well enough. (A...

Re: Replacing full biblio info where the in-text citation is

Yes, you need to use a “custom citation” in the citation part of your format definition. This custom citation can then be as complex and complete as you like. This is done in formats like Chicago 15th A (which calls upon Chicago 15th A Footnotes). Take a look at these kinds of formats if you want to...

Re: Update Question

It seems to me that dheidemann has moved the Bookends preferences/app support folder from the home folder to the root folder. (It seems the reason why was a fear that updating Bookends will delete or change custom formats – which it doesn’t under normal circumstances.) Then somehow the prefs were ei...

Notecard search would be neat – I would also go for the first option.

I do – but sometimes I do not click the supplied link immediately *gasp* and let it sit in my "forums" inbox for a day or two before I do. And sometimes I click it, read it, feel overwhelmed by the complexity of contemporary life, hit command-W, and stare on the snowy landscape outside for...
