Re: Autolinking Bookends and DEVONthink records

That did it! Thanks so much.

Trying to figure out the ideal writing/referencing workflow, so if you get a moment would love to hear how you swing it. Also trying to make this work on iOS, which is what I primarily work on. Thanks again.

Re: Autolinking Bookends and DEVONthink records

Hi, you'll have to excuse my ignorance here, but I've been trying to work this out and just can't swing it. I want to be able to use the script that works on selected items, but instead of creating a linked record in DT with the PDF, I want to create a blank note. I modified part of it so that it re...

Re: URL links from within iOS?

Any update on when this might take place? Would love to see it happen as well. For reference, here’s the workflow I created: Create an item in Bookends, export it using bibtex, run a shortcut that grabs the title and author, and then use those to create a new .md file in a designated devonthink fold...

Move multiple references to folder

Another small, but useful request. Often I find myself adding a handful of references, which I then want to organize into a specific folder. However, right now, the ‘Manage’ button on top does not give the option for moving references into folder (you can only export them(, and you have to go into e...

Re: Bibtex export

Hi @Sayyaar, this might be a little off topic, and you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I'm interested in how you get pandoc running on a remote server like that. What's required to set up something like that? Does it actually do all the pandoc conversions for you, bibliography and all? I would l...

Search from main page

This is small, but I sometimes find it annoying that you have to go into one of the groups (even if it’s just ‘All’) in order to conduct a search. Could there not be a universal search from the main page right when you open Bookends?

Export notes with applescript

Hi, I'm looking for an applescript that will export *just* the written notes that I create (not the highlights). I considered trying to modify this OPML script https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3882 but my problem is that I create notes using Bookends on my iPad and the no...

Re: Some feature requests

I think you are talking about Bookends on Mac whereas I’m talking iOS. If you see the first attached screenshot, when I add a PDF (and this one even has a doi!) the only options are to “attach to new empty reference” and “find a reference to attach”—neither gives you the option to autocomplete the r...

Re: Some feature requests

Yes, but this never works if I’m importing anything other than a journal article with a doi that can be read by bookends. What I think is desperately needed is to be able to autocomplete via search . Right now, if Bookends can’t find anything to autocomplete the paper, you have no other option excep...

Re: Some feature requests

I want to bump this up if possible. Specifically, if I copy a PDF to Bookends and can’t immediatley find a reference (because there’s no doi or it’s not scanned properly), we need the option to autofill from internet based on searchable terms . So the workflow would be: copy pdf to bookends, use sea...

Re: Bookends iOS, Devonthink and Liquidtext best practices

I’m not sure if this would work, but I was wondering something similar. Seeing as syncing via iCloud basically just sets up a folder with all the PDFs in iCloud, could you not index that folder with devonthink and have it treat PDF’s/annotations the same way? And then on iOS could you just use Liqui...

Re: Some feature requests

Thanks for the reply. A quick clarification, often my references don't have URLs, in which case there's really no option to find the reference online. And even if they do have one, I've found that clicking on the full text button often returns a page that just says Wrong URL. It's unclear why that i...

Some feature requests

Hi, I’m a recent transport from Papers 3 and am so far enjoying the Bookends experience. I have some questions/gripes/requests for iOS and thought I’d offer them here: - While reading a PDF, include a pop up button on highlighted text that will allow you to search the web with that text (this alread...

Re: Cite while you write on iOS

Yes, I guess the utility of this is that I would be able to stay in the same app. In other words, the way I’ve been using that shortcut is to simply invoke it straight from wherever I’m writing without having to open a new app, go searching for the reference, copy it, and go back. Admittedly, that’s...

Cite while you write on iOS

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone wants to take a shot at replicating this iOS shortcut , found here . The shortcut uses Zotero's web API to look up references in a library and return a pandoc style citation to use while writing on iOS. The beauty of it is that it allows a decent cite while you write func...
