(1) You have to close the Internet Search window and reopen it after enabling filters in the Import Filters window otherwise they won't be recognized. (2) Just to be sure: only those import filters that have the Internet Search Ability turned on allow internet searches (you can enable and disable th...

I definitely see your point there. This is the exact reason why I like Bookends so much and why I prefer it to other solutions. (The same is true for Mellel, OmniOutliner, and Camino, three of my other favorite OS X applications.) The only reason why I would think this might be a valid option to inc...

Z39.50 import filters: customize search attributes

Ok, after some more research I was able to shrink the remaining problems that I have with Z39.50 access to issues regarding search attributes: Most databases are different concerning the way they assign search attributes. Sometimes a generic search in all fields is assigned to the attribute number 1...

I don't know how to interpret the values in the table on that site, therefore I can just check and see how far I get with a trial and error method… Well, I am sorry… lazy, hasty me… A closer look into the User Guide (p. 86) has revealed what the attributes used for the different field types m...

aye, I can live without being able to search the author field (although I can search the author field in the GVK database using Endnote. What kind of database is "Tiborder"?) I do have more problems with accessing the other database – HeBIS They do provide pretty detailed info for settin...

I also have problems setting up access for HeBIS, another joint catalogue. I am getting 114 Errors on every field except for the title field.

More info about HeBIS access can be found here:

Thanks a zillion!

GBV GVK z39.50 search

I am fiddling around with searching the Gemeinsamer Verbund Katalog (GBV/GVK) - a big collective of German state and University libraries. Most fields are working, I only get an error if I want to search the author field. It is Error 114. the MARC output of the GVK looks as follows: MARC Record 001 ...

hmm, too bad – it seems I cannot do what I hoped I could: in the user3 field, which I use for translator, I wrongly entered _a lot_ of names, however, all in the format: "firstname lastname", instead of "lastname, firstname" (without the quotes). I was hoping I could exchange t...

Re: minor quibbles: window positioning & double click li

Is the View Formatted window open? If so, it may be that the delay in displaying the formatted reference is causing Bookends to think the second click is a discrete click. I'm not sure how to avoid this. Not the greatest solution, but the Show Reference button at the bottom of the window always wor...

minor quibbles: window positioning & double click list e

First: great upgrade & great forum! My problems: I am keeping the database list window maximized on my secondary display. If I close it or close the database and then reopen it, the window appears in the same size but the upper edge is now in the mid-section of the screen to that the lower part ...

This is explained in the first paragraphs of the "Bookends Read Me.rtf" file inside your "Bookends Folder".

Basically, you have to export your old database in Bookends 7 and re-import it with Bookends 8 (in bookends format).
