Re: Feature request: Bib sync

I don't get any Applescript errors, only a Bookends crash, but yes this has to be an Applescript limitation as I can export the same references as bibtex without issue. The bib file is empty until the applescript finishes (suggesting it is memory mapped until a final file write on line 164), and I w...

[Feature Request] Applescript event to create a group

I would like to be able to create a group in Bookends using Applescript, which I think according to the User Manual is not currently possible? The usecase is that I've started using (user1) BibTex like citation style, and I'd like to be able to make a script that scans a formatted manuscript and cre...

[Feature Request] Post processing Imports for DOIs

DOIs have become one of the most important elements of a modern reference. Annoyingly when importing, for RIS (and possibly other formats), different sources use different fields to specify the DOI. This often causes Bookends to import invalid DOIs. A clear example is the Nature/Springer group: http...

Re: Feature request: Bib sync

Naupaka, this script is brilliant!!! As it uses proper Bookends Applescript events it is much more robust that simulating keystrokes, and you can get it to export multiple groups each to a separate BIB file. I was worried as I use unicode symbols in my group names it would fail but it handles partia...

Re: Bookends folder and dropbox

I also had this problem, and Jon's update appears to have fixed it for me at least.

Copy as Link to Notes?

I normally link Bookends to Scrivener so I can use ⌘Y to "Copy Citation". But I would like to be able to use "Copy as link" to copy a link to the Notes section within Bookends. At the moment it force copies to Scrivener, and I have to then cut and paste it back across. Any trick ...

Re: [Feature Request] Remember List Sort Order

OK, that will work. I do prefer to see my Authors as the first column though; I don't need to see Ref # only use it for sorting — I realised that I can resize this column so the contents is invisible while still using it to sort which gets me where I want! 8)

[Feature Request] Remember List Sort Order

This is fairly minor but I'll ask anyway. I use a "Ref #" column, and sort this in descending order (so my most recent references are first in the list). Bookends doesn't save this so I have to do this on each application start; I would like this preference to be remembered when I start Bo...

Re: Citation downloads for Bookends

Hi Jon, OK that's great, I had customised my RIS filter myself which is why I didn't notice you had now changed it. 8)

Re: Citation downloads for Bookends

I never got a reply. This backend system has now made its way all the way to Science: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/354/6319/1587 And it is still exporting Bookends-specific RIS using n2 for the significance / abstract... Re: New Reference Type: Preprint?

OK there is no way to add the Preprint type without using Unused 0-20, adding a Field21 or something? I agree you can't overwrite any existing fields... NilsMS — I'd love this too, but I don't think there is an accepted standard on how to forward link from a preprint to the published paper? And slig...

New Reference Type: Preprint?

Hi, Perhaps this is biased by my academic field, but as academic publishing is changing I see that preprint servers are becoming common for more and more academic fields. I know Bookends is very flexible and I can change this for myself, but just wondered if Bookends shouldn't have a dedicated Prepr...

Re: Biorxiv

There is a direct bookends compatible RIS output in Citation Tools, e.g. http://biorxiv.org/highwire/citation/25230/bookends — possibly there is a compatibility issue with the abstract, requiring a small edit of the RIS import filter but give it a try first. Jon has also improved Biorxiv import dire...

Re: Feature request: Bib sync

I thought this file watching utility may be potentially helpful for you guys: https://github.com/emcrisostomo/fswatch But looking at the database.BDB and database.BDB.JOURNAL files and they don't update when edits are made, so you can't use file changes to automatically trigger the update Applescrip...
