Getting my head around iCloud
Apologies for a very simplistic question. When BE syncs its database via iCloud, is it really using a chunk of iCloud drive or rather is it only using iCloud as a means of communicating across different Apple devices and pushing electrons for synchronization and hence not really storing anything rem...

Re: Scanning messes up manuscript's format
It appears this problem has re-surfaced with the latest version of Word (15.30). After scanning my doc. formatting was completely hosed (fonts changed, spacing wrong, extra special characters added where I had bullet points etc.). Saving as an RTF and scanning within BookEnds seems to solve it, but ...

How to download a PDF viewed in BE browser
Here is where I am:
Sitting in the BE browser, I've found a paper within Web of Science and made it to the publishers site and am looking at the PDF from a publisher's site. How do I get that PDF and its metadata into my library?

Force Word 2011 / Bookends to maintain style
I've got a document in Word 2011 and need to unscan and rescan my bibliography. If I start with the scanned version and my Normal Word template is set to 12 pt. font, Times New Roman, and then I unscan the document, all of my BookEnds entries in the document are now Cambria font. Once I rescan, I am...

trying to create keyboard shortcuts in Word 2011
I've attempted to set up keyboard shortcuts within Word 2011 for the BE scripts (…Find in Bookends, Go to Bookends etc.). I've found some simple directions that seem to work great with the exception of the Insert Citation which worked upon my first assignment but refuses to work again. Here is what ...

Re: Bookends 12.2.4 Crashes While Syncing With Another Library
…also don't forget to close your instance of bookends running on one Mac BEFORE you start working in bookends on your other Mac. If you don't, you will have to deal with lots of conflicted copies of your database sitting in dropbox.

How to share refs with another BE user??
I've been using BE solo for a long time now, but am finally collaborating with people that are also using it. What is the best way to share references with each user so they can quickly get some of my references into their database? Is there any functionality like in EndNote where one user can extra...

Re: BE keeps forgetting watch folder location
Watch folder is on my desktop. For people like me that want to use BE across multiple computers at different times and keep it all synced to DropBox, will the watch folder system ever really work if we attempt to have a watch folder on each desktop?

Re: BE keeps forgetting watch folder location
Repair run as suggested, but the problem still persists. As a bit of other info, my BE database and attachment folder live on DropBox.

BE keeps forgetting watch folder location
I'm running version 12.2.1 in Mac OS 10.9.4 and have a recurring problem where BookEnds, no longer has a watch folder assigned and I have to reconfigure this. It does not seem to be after every quit of the application, but has happened to me about three times over the past week or so. Any one else s...

Thanks Jon, I look forward to the next version.
The outdated description of the watch folder functionality is on the bottom of p. 264 in the user guide.

Watch folder problems & feature request
I've set up a watch folder and tested it with two recently downloaded PDF's. It worked flawlessly the first time. After dragging another PDF to the folder BookEnds does nothing with it, and I'm wondering why. I've made sure BookEnds is the front window and have attempted to refresh the view by click...

Ahh, good to know. I had not realized that the link with BE and WoS was broken.

failing to find older references in manual entry
I'm wondering if others are hitting this problem with the latest version of BE: If I drag a recent pdf journal article that has a digital identifier, BE can autofill and complete the reference entry with no problem. However, using similar databases for the search, such as web of science or Google sc...
