iCloud Folder location change in 14.0.3?
With the new 14.0.3 it seems my iCloud Bookends folder has changed. Previously it was /Users/ian/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~sonnysoftware~bot/Documents/ but this has now been changed to /Users/ian/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~sonnysoftware~bot/Documents/ Bookends/Attachments I'm not ...

Re: Command + A Hijacked by Bookends
Hm, if that was my Alfred workflow, just to mention that by default no key bindings are set up so that shouldn't happen. Alfred workflows can be setup to be triggered by key commands but you must set that up manually...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
Sorry, but I only grudgingly use Word, if at all, as a final tweak. The DOCX is already fully formatted, including figures / equations / table / academic metadata / bibliography before Word is ever opened. See an example fully-formatted DOCX here: https://github.com/iandol/scrivomatic/raw/master/sam...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
I have asked Keith who develops Scrivener if he can integrate a CSL citeproc engine into Scrivener ( here ). It would be "easier" for Scrivener to add CSL support as it already has a comprehensive formatting engine, but it is still a huge undertaking for a single developer who must assign ...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
What exactly do you want Bookends to "support"? Are you only referring to the plugin for Word? That would still require a lot of work from Jon to support two completely different formatting methods. There are available CSL citeproc engines (citeproc-rs being the most modern, written in rus...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
Well, I use CSL styles perfectly well with Bookends on macOS, given that temporary citation from Bookends can work with Pandoc, which also uses CSL for formatting manuscripts to DOCX, LaTeX, HTML and a plethora of others. I don't know enough about Zotero, but at least with a BibTeX sync some of the ...

Re: Beginners question
A small point regarding your (7) — Bookends has a full Applescript interface, so it would be possible to create a script that could take a selection of references and search just the DOI or PMIDs and copy them to the clipboard. You can ask specifically on the applescript subforum for help with that...

Re: Bookends Siri Shortcuts Forum
From my perspective I suppose the idea is the actions (much like the Applescript interface does now) should integrate Bookends into another workflow, like selecting text in another app then pushing it to Bookends and/or getting a result from Bookends (like a formatted ref) to send to another app in ...

Yeah, I think Desktop Shortcuts is just something that is a bit "easier" to use for non-technical users who may be scared by writing code...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
Yes, translators are metadata extracting scripts. I think they are written in Javascript. Ok thanks. The developer info is here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/translators — as this all is open-source, it would be technically possible to run these javascript translators using a third-party tool...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
Can you explain what a translator is; is it a custom HTML scraper to get information from a page? For very new articles sometimes the DOI does not resolve in Bookends, this does drive me crazy as I tend to jump on new papers, then can't quickly add them and they may get lost unless I keep them as a ...

Hi Serge & Jon,
Now that Monterey also supports shortcuts, do you have a plan for extending shortcut support on iOS to desktop?

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
I suppose it depends on the field of study. For my field (Neuroscience), almost every relevant web page will have a corresponding DOI, PMID or preprint address (and PDFs are how we read the actual papers). Zotero provides no added value here I think, Bookends quick add (automated by applescript) doe...

Re: PDF annotation changes -- comments
How will this interact with the normal context menu "Look up" and "Search with" functions; will the context menu still be available? I have to admit I sometimes forget what each of the many options in the action menu do and need to stare at it for a bit to grok what I want from i...

Re: Best practices to work with the Bib-sync feature
Speed is the only benefit? Sounds like it's a lot of work for that. Just trying to understand your workflow. Yes, speed is the only benefit; the script does the work automatically in the background (and I still need to protect my titles so I will always run a post-processing script anyway) — I have...
