Autocomplete is the next feature we would like to implement, some of the parts were implemented already, like import reference if you enter the doi or isbn, other requires a bit more time. We really hope to have this feature in early 2018.

We can add this feature to Bookends for iOS. If user1 field isn’t empty we will use it, otherwise we will create a temporary citation on the fly based on the first author's last name and year as shown in your example. If the dynamically generated value isn’t what you need you can always go to Booken...

Maybe you should try to reinstall your iOS, or wait for iOS 11. I think something is wrong on iOS level.

Yes, files are stored locally in ~/Library/Mobile Documents/ and this folder should be backed up by Time Machine.
