Make Bookends open in the group I was last working in

Feature request : Every time I start Bookends it defaults back to the All-Group instead of opening in the group I was last working in. This is just a pain in the butt. Wouldn't it be possible to automatically save the working location before I quit the program? This is particularly annoying if one ...

Re: How to number inline custom citations?

"Citation Options" in the Formats Manager has the option of using a number as unique citation. The number can be preceded with text, but not followed by anything else, 2.png thus making it different from and inferior to numbered references which can be both preceded and followed by text. 1...

Re: How to number inline custom citations?

Thank you, Jon. I should like to add that this system is actually quite common in annotated bibliographies. Here is a randomly selected book that uses it throughout (numbering starts here on page 6.) https://books.google.de/books?id=mVi3DQAAQBAJ&printsec=copyright&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q...

How to number inline custom citations?

I'm working on a large annotated bibliography in Nisus Writer Pro for students about sources and reference material in literary scholarship. It's also a bibliographic research and reference manual – in two parts. In the second, non-annotated part, the references are numbered. This is achieved by ena...

Re: Subsequent citation citing first citation?

I am entering the FIRST citation as a full one. Then the subsequent ones as Short Title (s) Short Title? or Author, Short Title? You must be consistent! You said the journal wants subsequent citations to refer to the first one, as in See Note #1. To me it now seems you want "See Note #" t...

Re: Subsequent citation citing first citation?

I assume I will also want to keep "a, s" in that box to have the short title. We need to clarify one thing: how do you want your first citation to look like? Is it supposed to contain the same information as in the final bibliography? Or will it somehow be abbreviated? With a short title,...

Re: Subsequent citation citing first citation?

this should be doable
Regardless whether you have Live Bibliography enabled or not, this is fairly easy to do in Mellel. To make your custom format perfect, also enter "See Note No." (without the quotes) into the following field:

Re: Subsequent citation citing first citation?

By "Note" I understand you mean "footnote." Am I right? I'm not sure whether Bookends can do this. If not, I would do the following as a walk-around. It requires that your word processor can insert cross-references to a footnote. 1) As a subsequent citation option enter `See Note...

Re: Copy citation uses reference, not citation format?

Citing by Author, Date, PMID is for people who obtain their references from PubMed. In this case each reference has a PubMed ID (PMID) and the temp citations will look something like this: {Byock, 2001, 432341234} I never use PubMed. When I cite Author, Date, PMID the result I get for a temporary c...

Re: Copy citation uses reference, not citation format?

I've checked "Preferences" and enabled the Copy Citation option to use the .fmt file I've made Well, that's exactly what you are NOT supposed to do! From the drop-down menu in Preferences > Scan & Bib > Copy Citation use instead one of the three first options to create a temporary cit...

Incomplete format called "Angewandte"

One of the formats that comes with Bookends is called "Angewandte." Obviously this is a German format, but the second part of the name seems to be missing. 'Angewandte' means 'applied', so the user will evidently ask himself or herself: applied what? Applied Linguistics? or applied somethi...

Germanistik and Bookends

Is anyone here using Bookends to write papers in Germanistik (German [language and] literature)? There is no format available in Bookends for this university subject, so I had to create one for myself. I wonder if there are any other Germanists here who need this format and would like to be able to ...

Cite them as "removable in-text citation." Enter an exclamation mark (!) immediately after the opening delimiter of the citation. See more about this on p. 234 in the User Guide.

Re: MLA Formatting: Ambiguous Citations by Same Author

There are at least 8 version ("editions") of MLA available. So, when you ask questions in this forum you should mention which edition you are using. Thus while the MLA calls for this: (Baldwin, Notes of a Native Son 63)... (Baldwin, The Fire Next Time 110) This is incorrect . MLA in-text c...
