Re: Bookends quit unexpectedly in Monterey
This problem seems to occur when idle. When Bookends is left for a while to do something else, or when the computer sleeps, surprise, it's not there any more. It has not crashed when I'm actually doing something. Do you have App Tamer installed? I was going crazy at some point on why Finder tend to...

Re: Change the reference type of multiple entries at the same time
YES, you need to check out the Global Change menu under Ref.
You will find Change Reference Type there.

Re: Case protection in BibTeX export format
I'm not sure if this should be done automatically, or if should be opt-in with a preference setting. Maybe the BibTeX users reading this would weigh in on that (avoiding yet another preference setting would be my preference). Jon Sonny Software For God's sake, please make this an option in the Pref...

Re: PDF annotation changes -- comments
@Bernardo: If I understand your problem correctly, I think there is a way around your issue of keep the relationship between books and their chapters. - Assign the filed user4 as a crossref field. Then, copy the Key of the book (the parent) to the crossref field of its children (the chapters). You c...

Re: More flexible citekey generation
As I said, starting with the first 4+ letter word might suffice in most cases. At least it will avoid starting with most prepositions. Jon Sonny Software That is even better. If the you can program it so that the first word will be 4 or more letters, that is wonderful. You don't need anything else....

Re: More flexible citekey generation
Finding the first substantive word isn't trivial, especially given that any language can be used. Jon Sonny Software That is fair; i understand. I am sorry if I am being nosy here. This feature is extremely important for me; I spend a lot of time juggling reference stuff. That is why I am asking to...

Re: More flexible citekey generation
These are wonderful options; and I am pretty sure they are going to make any user satisfied. I am very satisfied already. I have a suggestion about the 3rd choice. 1) Is it possible to replace the 15 characters with what Jabref calls [VeryShortTitle] (https://docs.jabref.org/setup/citationkeypattern...

Re: Set author names as single word
First, go to the Preference and define a new "type", under the "Refs" tab. For example, you can rename Unused 3 to "ibook" 04_10_22 at 12.39.48PM.png - close the Preference and go to the Format manager. There, you can "Add Type"---> select the "ibook"...

Re: Set author names as single word
But, if you want this kind of setup only for some references, you can setup a new category/type for them. YOU can develop a new "type", for example ibook category (to mean books authored by institutions); and then, set up the order authors like the above image for the ibook category only.

Re: Set author names as single word
You can modify your format manager to setup like that.
There is an option there to use either Doe, John or John Doe

Re: Duplicated citation keys
Yes, the unique id would definitely work. I second DrJJWMac's proposal. If his proposal is too much to include, adding the library name is very smart solution . If anyone is not interested in suffixing the 5 digit number (the unique id) into her keys, she can assign short library names (such as B fo...

Re: Duplicated citation keys
The in-library duplication will still be there so far as I am doing it manually. 1. Having a format would have been great because the format can be programmed to assign those prefixes and suffixes we want; and then, the housekeeper (the feature which makes the keys unique in the current system) will...

Re: Duplicated citation keys
I don't think the prefix makes a difference.
First round renaming:
John2012 -- > $John2012
John2012a --> $John2012a
Second round renaming:
John2012 --> $John2012
Still, the first and the third end up being identical.

Re: Duplicated citation keys
Another approach you could use now is to do a Global Change -> Change Field and insert a library-specific tag in front of or after the key Bookends generates. The downside is that you'd have to do this periodically for new references and be careful to not touch references that have already been alt...
