there is a tutorial that comes with Bookends, which should provide enough to get the novice up and running. I'd forgotten all about that! I still think a growing collection of things available from a central location on your website is a desirable thing long term. As for the final comment about Typ...

Re: Ignoring 'van' when Sorting Bibliography
When the bibliography is sorted ('alphabetized'), names like van Eemeren, di Capio and af Segerstad are sorted after van, di and af respectively, instead of after Eemeren, Capio and Segerstad. Can this be avoided? I've always tended to think that since "van", etc, are part of the family n...

Suggestions for improving Bookends support
Bookends has a detailed user guide, and support questions are always answered quickly. Now we have these forums, with Jon seemingly ever-present, which means that it's easier to ask questions while benefiting people other than oneself. For novices like me, however, it can be difficult to know where ...

User1 and Key field clash ?
I have BibTex enabled and have discovered recently what a wonderful thing that is. But I'm wondering what to do about web references in formats such as APA 5th, which use user1 for the date of retrieval. If I generate BibTex keys from the Refs menu, will this delete the retrieval information already...

styles problem
All I can imagine is that perhaps the style of the 0'th character in the Title field you pasted into was set to bold. This could happen if you had bold text in that field and backspaced to delete it -- the style is still bold, no plain. Try creating a fresh reference and do this again. You've hit t...

volume and issue numbers in APA
If you want their styles to be different, you must edit the format to something like this: a. (d). t. f, v(i), p-. *and* turn OFF "include issue number with volume" in the second tab of the format definition. That worked like a charm. I can see that my understanding of the programme is st...

exporting bibtex
Thanks, Jon. That's solved it for me.use the BibTeX format to output the references. Make sure BibTeX is enabled in the Format Window, and select it from the popup menu when you send a "bibliography" (i.e. the hits) to disk as a plain text file.

Bookends to UniWakkaWiki
Sorry to keep flogging this one, but now that I'm able to import into Bookends from UniWakkaWiki, I'd like to do the reverse. Unfortunately, I can't get the UniWakkaWiki import feature to work. I suspect that the format is the problem, because UniWakka export refs look like this: @article{avesani02c...

styles problem
Sorry to keep the questions coming so thick and fast, but I'm working in Bookends intensively these days and want to clear up as many issues as possible... When I enter data into Bookends by copying and pasting from a webpage, styles are sometimes retained. They are still retained in formatted bibli...

Volume and Issue Number
Thanks, Jon, and sorry to have you answering here and by email! I completely forgot to mention what prompted me to try inputting both formats in the first place. In APA format, volume number is supposed to be italicized, while issue number shouldn't be. Bookends italicizes both of them, so I wondere...

Wow, this polls feature is nice! I've never seen it done like this before, with a poll being attached to a forum post.

Bookends & UniWakkaWiki
A colleague recently pointed out to me that, though you can do pretty much everything collaboratively online these days, using various open source content management systems, there doesn't seem to be anything to handle bibliographies and references. Fortunately, I've just discovered UniWakkaWiki htt...
