Re: Selector in Preferences for Default epub Viewer?

I don't know how much demand there is for something like this. I doubt there are many attaching ebooks, and among those even fewer who want to use different readers for different ebooks (that are attached in Bookends). The threshold is high for added yet another preference setting, there are already...

Re: BE wants to created two entries from one citation in Mellel when scanning

Try a proofreading scan (see User Guide for how that works). I think that will do it.

P.S. The separator will be set to a comma if you enable BibTex and tell Bookends to use citekeys. There is a warning when this happens.

Re: BE wants to created two entries from one citation in Mellel when scanning

Did you by any chance change the citation separator from a semicolon to a comma in Bookends preferences?

Re: Can I replace the AUTHORS displayed in the PDF TAB with a different label?

That's not possible. You may not know, however, that when you hover the pointer over the tab, Bookends will display the name of the PDF as a tooltip. So if the PDFs have rational names (e.g. include metadata such as author, date, and part of title) you can see more identifying information you want. ...

Re: Bookends not visible on iCloud?

iCloud Drive in the Finder looks like a typical desktop item with folders, files, etc., but it's not. If you look a the path to the iCloud Drive Bookends folder in Bookends Settings you'll see right away that it doesn't behave by the usual rules. So all I can say is what I said before -- what you se...

Re: Bookends not visible on iCloud?

Very few users have this issue (we can't reproduce it ourselves). But we are cognizant that some users encounter it, and if we can figure out why (and it's not a a bug in iCloud) we will fix it for those that do.

Re: Bookends not visible on iCloud?

That folder should be visible (in the Bookends blessed folder -- the one with the icon on it). We've had a few reports that this was not the case, however. We've tried to track down the problem, but never did. Since this is all handled by Apple, not us, it's a black box. But in those cases the PDFs ...

Re: Bookends not visible on iCloud?

It's behaving as it should. Bookends doesn't sync your database file. It syncs your database data, which is stored in the cloud. This is much better than syncing the actual file, for many reasons, chief among them is speed and stability (there is no database or file system data to become corrupted)....

Re: Migrating to new Mac with large iCloud Library - hints, experiences, wise words sought!

Why makes you think he does? So I can be clear about the current status: 1. PDF syncing using iCloud Drive isn't working properly. As I said, that had nothing to do with Bookends. You can remove Bookends from your system and the iCloud Drive file sync behavior wouldn't change. So I'm afraid I can't ...

Re: Migrating to new Mac with large iCloud Library - hints, experiences, wise words sought!

The file syncing is handled entirely by Apple, so I can't comment except to say it's probably just slow and you're seeing artifacts related to that. As for Bookends, though, when you do a File -> New Library -> Download From Cloud, the download will take time if you have many thousands of references...

Re: Migrating to new Mac with large iCloud Library - hints, experiences, wise words sought!

If I understand you correctly, your seeing a problem with the PDFs in iCloud Drive, nothing to do with Bookends per se. Is that correct? If so, could you say a bit more about what you mean by "I just see a few files (different each time I restart the Mac)"?

Are you sure you want that. Using AND, and checking on January 10, 2024, a paper published January 1, 2024 would not be found, event though it had been published in the last 30 days.

You say you have the smart groups already -- they must be SQL smart groups. To see their content, double click on them and they will open for editing. Copy the searches in each (they are plain text) and post them here. Or did you mean you "want to have"? This is the search you would enter ...
