Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

I suggest that any further issues with Bookends and CiteULike that might arise be discussed directly, off-forum (support@sonnysoftware.com).
Thanks a lot for your patience and helpfulness, Jon. Will do.

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Sorry to keep rabbiting on about a pet topic, but there are a couple of other problems with input from CiteULike that it would be wonderful to see remedied along with page numbers and the checking for duplicates: When there are multiple authors, authors other than the first are ignored; When the ite...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Remember, the pdf proxy icon will download and attach whatever is in the browser window. If it is a pdf (in the WebKit viewer), it downloads the pdf. If it is a web page, it downloads and attaches that (as a .webarchive). OK, I get it now. I was dragging the little PDF icons from windows such as th...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Hi Jon, That doesn't really work optimally for me. If I have the reference selected in list view and I drag the PDF icon (from Safari or from the Bookends Browser), Bookends offers to attach the PDF to the selected reference and appears to do so, but the reference still shows up as having no attachm...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Thanks a bunch, Jon. That's a big, big help. Looking forward, any chance in a future version of Bookends storing CiteULike account information? If you haven't used CiteULike, you may not know this, but when you're logged in and view your own library, PDF icons appear for any articles for which you o...

Re: Journler link in a Bookends notecard (and DOIs)

Thanks for the clarification. It's quite a bit more flexible and powerful than I had realised. A quick warning/tip for other users from a recent experience of mine: some of the journal sites show a DOI as a clickable link, the link displayed starting with 10. However, when you right-click to copy th...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

For anyone following this discussion (I hope I'm not the only person who uses both CiteULike and Bookends!), Jon and the CiteULike people are working together directly on this.

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

More from the CiteULike people: I've had a look at the specs , and I think the proper way to do it is: rfr_id=info:sid/citeulike.org/citeulike (already there) rft_dat=article_id/12242424 Posted by thegoose on 2009-07-19 10:20:23. Re: Journler link in a Bookends notecard (and DOIs)

Bookends will do that for you (right-click in the doi field that has a legitimate doi (beginning with 10.) and you'll see correct URL in the contextual menu. Oh, that's a nice feature. For "you don't need to…", I guess I should read "it's best not to…"? It sounds like the next u...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Hi again, The CiteULike people have already responded favorably. But they want to know exactly what format would suit Bookends' purposes best. Here's the message: Easy to do, but how? With a DOI there's rft_id=info:doi/10.1232/121212121 I could do rft_id=info:citeulike/1233221 if there's no DOI, or ...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

The CiteULike unique identifier is not included in the COinS embedded object, which is what Bookends browser is importing… If you would like for CiteULike to include the unique identifier in their COinS objects, please write to them and make this suggestion. I'm sure they'd like feedback on how the...

Re: Journler link in a Bookends notecard (and DOIs)

After posting the previous message, I noticed that the journler://entry/42 text is recognized as a hyperlink in Safari and takes me to a specific Journler entry that refers to the bibliographic entry in Bookends. In Bookends, if I add the same text to a URL field and click on the @, Bookends opens t...

Journler link in a Bookends notecard (and DOIs)

In one of my Bookends items, a notecard contains the following text: journler://entry/42 I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't remember how I got that in there. It clearly is supposed to take me to an entry in Journler but simply double-clicking on the text doesn't do anything, and no options appear...

Re: NoteCards

I'd like to echo arathe's expression of thanks for this feature. I find the following workflow most useful: Select all notecards for a reference Command-K Command-Tab to DevonThink Command-N for a new note with the content of all the notecards with full source information (Optional: Within the note ...

Re: CiteULike duplicate imports

Bookends already does something like this (marks the ones you have in yellow) for PubMed and JSTOR. That's because they have unique identifiers that Bookends can look for. I don't believe CiteULike records have anything similar. Just a clarification, Jon: I think every CiteULike item has a unique I...
