And this is really down in the weeds, but in case anyone wants to replicate my (baroque) system, I have the following labels in Bookends (not all listed):
To Find
To Read
Have Read
Have Notes
"Have Notes" means that either (a) I have attached an .rtf document with notes, or (b) I have put notes in ...

Re: Recommendations about using notes (particularly with Scrivener)
All I can say is that I haven't found a place to write notes that I am happy with.
1. If I put them in Bookends Notes (or Sente when I was using it), then I can't find them through any other mechanism except searching in Bookends. I sort of depend on using Spotlight for searching.

Q re: Remove Arbitrary Attachment Folders
I think I have had some references deleted from my database by accident. I think the best way to find them is to change my attachment folder to another place, and then "Remove Arbitrary Attachment Folders…" to move attachments to the new place. Anything that remains in the old attachment folder will ...

Re: Type-ahead (string matching) interferes with entering data with accented characters
If anyone comes across this problem, I solved it by rebuilding the keyword index, per Jon's suggestion. It may have had something to do with normalizing unicode characters as well.

Re: Two window behaviors that are very non-intuitive
Hi Jon
I don't want to be annoying, but I don't understand what you mean by a "thin title bar."
This is the inspector:

and this is the terms list:

I don't see any difference. A visual reminder that the windows behave differently would seem in order to me ...

Type-ahead (string matching) interferes with entering data with accented characters
I am trying to enter the author "Martinsson", but as I type the "i" in this name, Bookends attempts to match it with "Martínez" (accented i). Then when I type the "s" following the "i", nothing is entered, so the final name is entered as "Martnsson". There is something weird happening here with ...

A suggestion to users for making keywords more effective
Hi
All you smart people have probably already twigged this, but if not:
If you make your keywords start with a general concept and then move to specific, it becomes easy to use the keyword Terms List panel to do searches.
For instance, your keywords can be
Cats
Cats, feral
Cats, feral, effects ...

Two window behaviors that are very non-intuitive
I'd like to draw attention to two behaviors of Bookends that I find very non-intuitive, and, the first especially, keep getting in the way of my using Bookends effectively.
1) The "Inspector" or "Reference Links" window looks like any other window, but it acts like a panel. It floats on top of all ...

Re: Tell me about your paper-writing bookends workflow
Most of my workflow is similar to what is described by others. I am working with a lot of non-electronic documents, so I need to keep track of which library/repository that they are in, so I use the following.
My color labels are: No Label/Have notes/Have read/To read/Find/Not Located/Deferred/In ...

Re: Custom reference types/field labels missed after update
At least one user has had success restoring his modified Type and field labels doing this:
1. Quit Bookends (important!)
2. Remove the file TypeAndFieldLabels.txt from the Bookends folder (use the Help menu to go to that folder).
3. Restore Bookends Preferences (also in that folder) from Time ...

"Find a group"--not that useful as implemented. Thoughts?
Hi
I thought I'd start a discussion here before asking Jon for a feature request.
I do not find the "Find a Group" (Search box that pops up when you click on "Group" at the top of the list of groups) behavior very useful.
The manual says: "If a match is found Bookends will select that group and ...

Re: Remove a reference from a group without deleting reference?
I have reported elsewhere that sometimes when trying to delete a reference from a static group, Bookends will instead say that it is going to delete the reference from the catalog. I haven't tested it to see if that is what Bookends would really do. I solved the problem by quitting and relaunching ...

Re: Strange and scary behavior for delete key
This continues to happen to me. I still don't know if it is a miscreant dialog, or if Bookends would really delete references even though I am selecting them through a static collection (because I am afraid to find out!)
Here is the bug exemplified. I have clicked on the static collection "For BWP ...
