Hi, um, stripedskunk.

If you want Roman accented characters, you just type them the way you would in any Mac application. For example, to type é you would enter

Option-e
e

(two keystrokes)

For an umlauted u (ü), it would be

Option-u
u

Or am I missing something?

The field labels don't change as a function of Type -- they are constant. What does change is the way the fields are handled when creating a bibliography. For example, the Volume field holds the volume number of a Journal Article, but holds the title of the book when a Book Chapter is cited. If a fi...

In the Mellel forum however, the method you suggest was used, but this apparently also generated duplicates in the bibliography. I didn't try it out yet, will do so today. It didn't generate duplicates in the bibliography, it generated "duplicates" in the citation list that Mellel keeps i...

Hi Adelheid, If you use custom citation formats and "Ibid.", Bookends will create a new citation every time. But we made a change in 7.7.5 that (I think) changed the behavior with regard to making duplicates in bibliographies. But the problem here isn't anything to do with Bookends' logic....

Probably not. If you don't need ISBN numbers for web citations (and you shouldn't), then this field can be used for retreived date for web citations.

Rick, These are all good ideas. A few have been implemented already. For example, there is a tutorial that comes with Bookends, which should provide enough to get the novice up and running. The Read Me also is a mini-FAQ (but far from complete). I have thought of providing a stand-alone FAQ, which I...

Re: User1 and Key field clash ?

I have BibTex enabled and have discovered recently what a wonderful thing that is. But I'm wondering what to do about web references in formats such as APA 5th, which use user1 for the date of retrieval. If I generate BibTex keys from the Refs menu, will this delete the retrieval information alread...

Hi Madwen, Bookends doesn't use a real date field because many (most?) folks import reference information, and there is just not enough consistency to allow for unambiguous resolutions of dates (it's a mess). If you don't care about sorting by date, just enter the date as you like. If you want to so...

Use the menu option Edit -> Paste Without Styles (AKA Option-Command-V) I tried this, but couldn't get it to work as I imagine it should. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Rick Hi Rick, All I can imagine is that perhaps the style of the 0'th character in the Title field you pasted into was set to bol...

Hey thanks for responding, Jon. I use mostly CMS and that is what provoked my question since a CMS newspaper cite would read "author, title, paper, date, sec. X, pp 1-2" as opposed to the APA "X1-2". In your case I think either User1/User2 or Volume would make sense. You'd just ...

Hi Madwen, I am editing a previous post I made, now that I've done a bit of research. According to the APA Newspaper Article format, the section belongs with the page. I copied this information and example for an unsigned newspaper article from this web site: http://www.miracosta.edu/home/jmegill/Sa...

There are many new features we are working on. This is not at the top of our list, but it is something we would like to have at some point. It would be helpful if folks who would use "German sorting" explained exactly what they want in detail. For example: 1. Should there be a user-defined...

Rick, Bookends can output the data in almost any form you would care to imagine. In this case, you are using the Printout format, if I'm not mistaken. Instead, use the BibTeX format to output the references. Make sure BibTeX is enabled in the Format Window, and select it from the popup menu when you...

Ah, I see. That's because the format we provide just outputs the volume field, without distinguishing between the volume and the issue. If you want their styles to be different, you must edit the format to something like this: a. (d). t. f, v (i), p-. *and* turn OFF "include issue number with v...
