Re: Duplicates after importing pdfs
dear Jon, do you know where in the meta-data of the pdf file the DOI can be found. Then I could insert it there if not existing, before importing... does Bookends open an autocomplete window when importint a pdf without a DOI, so that it can be assigned manually before importing/duplicate generation...

Duplicates after importing pdfs
Dear Bookends users I know that bookends has a cool feature to detect duplicates. I also know, that by importing a pdf, a duplicate may be generated if the item is already in my bookends repository. How do you avoid generating such duplicates? Or do you not bother? Or do you regularly check for such...

Re: notecards
wow - this would be great... (similar as on macos) I would then be able to select text in a pdf with the iapd-pen and directly highlight&add as notecard without an additional step, that would be fantastic!!! do I understand you correctly? I would be interested in beta testing ... and giving feed...

Re: Copy notecard and citation
I understand this all, but as bookends is able to show annotations (highlighted text), it would be great, if I can extract this data with a format field code... "N" extracts notecards, and maybe in the future an additional code, e.g. "A" would also extract annotations (highlighte...

Re: Copy notecard and citation
Jon, this exports only the notecards (not the notes created by highlighting text in a pdf? Correct? Or is there a way to extract also those notes directly in this process?

notecards
On bookends macos I can select text in a pdf and then directly "add as notecard" or "add as quote" to the notesstream/notecards. On bookends for ios I can select, but then have only the option to highlight (not to mark as quote or add as notecard directly, but have to copy the an...

Re: Copy notecard and citation
Dear Jon,
indeed this is a feasible solution.
I was able to create this with a format style and I am experimenting with it now.
Thanks so much for the hint!
Best wishes

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
thank you! any plans on the short term or long term for a CSL support in bookends for macos or a converting tool for basic functionality? although I appreciate how easy it is to create a format in bookends from an existing and similar format style, having the possibility to use thr huge CSL reposito...

Re: Copy notecard and citation
Dear Jon maybe I am not understanding you correctly. is there a way to select n references in bookends and then perform "copy citations and notes" in order to insert all notes with citations of the b references for example in word. currently, I have to copy citation and notes for each refe...

Copy notecard and citation
The feature "copy notecard and citations" is great, it copies all notecards with according citation to the clipboard. Is there also a possibility to select several references in the reference list (with CMD+click) and then copy all notecards of all these references including the notecards ...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS
With interest I have read this thread.... - it would be great, if bookends for macos in the future can also use CSL styles - at least optionally... maybe natively (optionally to bookends styles) or with a conversion tool.. as CSL is open source and the database is huge, this would be simply great (a...

4+5: thanks! this helped a lot! 7: works perfect! for all other users, have a look here how to create shortcuts for bookends: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/create-keyboard-shortcuts-for-apps-mchlp2271/mac idea for a future release: when doing an online search, items that are already in my...

Re: Beginners question
thank you! these responses helped a lot!!! 4: when inserting multiple citations with "floating citations" one after the other, the citations are inserted but seperated by a space between each single citation like {temp cite1} {temp cite2}, instead of {temp cite1}{temp cite2}. wouldn't it b...

Beginners question
Hi I am new to bookends... any recommendations how to start (the manual is so long and it's difficult to get a good overview in a short time). The software is really powerful... 1. if I import a pdf into bookends (drag and drop): what happens if the item already exists in my database. Will I get a w...
