Ah, I see. That's because the format we provide just outputs the volume field, without distinguishing between the volume and the issue. If you want their styles to be different, you must edit the format to something like this: a. (d). t. f, v (i), p-. *and* turn OFF "include issue number with v...

I'd be interested to hear what was the outcome here. Was the problem resolved? Yes, it was. The problem was that the import filter was set to use "any valid tag" as the end-of-field delimiter and, mistakenly, it also indicated that the keywords were separated by carriage returns, when in ...

Rick, I tried this URL http://www.istitutocolli.org/uniwakka/BiblioCitation I exported as BibTeX, and in my case (Safari) the references were sent to the screen. I copied some references to the clipboard, switched to Bookends, and Imported References *from the clipboard* using the BibTeX filter. It ...

Hi Rick, You can use either form (i.e. one with a space between the volume and the issue or not). Bookends will delete the space after the volume number if you choose to output it alone. Note that if a format tells Bookends to include the issue number with the volume, it will output exactly what you...

No, I'm afraid not. Sorts are strictly alphanumeric.

That's odd (rebuilding usually works). OK, it's also possible the Bookends Preferences file is damaged. Please remove it and relaunch Bookends (you'll need your serial number handy). What happens if you try to import into a freshly created database? If none of these solutions work, please send your ...

Hi, Unexpected quits are almost always do to internal database corruption. The universal solution is to File -> Database Maintenance -> Rebuild. First try the Keep User Data option (retains database-specific settings, like field labels, window position, groups, etc.). If that fails (because some set...

Quick followup: I'm back and have had a chance to check. TI and T1 are both acceptable ways of referring to the primary title field (see http://www.refman.com/support/risformat_tags_01.asp ). I have edited the RIS import filter to accept either. This (along with a few other minor changes) will be in...

Hi Greetz,

Thanks for the info. Did you use the latest RIS filer? I seem to recall changing the title tag in the RIS filter to T1 several months ago. I will check when I return from vacation (Aug 24).

Re: Bookends and MLA/Silver Platter

I have two questions: first, is there a list of markers or field tags that Bookends uses to read records for import, so that I can pre-clean data with them? (I assume these are distinct from the ones I would use to create a custom filter, but if they are the same, the user info should specify that ...

Hi Jan, I am on vacation in Italy at the moment and just saw this post. Use the EndNote (Refer) format that we supply with Bookends (enable it in the Formats window first). Select the references you want to export (make them hits). Then -- 1. Biblio -> Biblio Formatter 2. Send the 'bibliography' to ...

The bad news is that, as you found, in Bookends 7 all references are made hits when you choose Refs -> Show All References. The good news is that this will not be true in Bookends 8, which will have a much improved way of dealing with reference lists. Sorry, no date yet, but it's coming along... Jon...
