Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser

Jon: I am glad my comments resonated and sparked further insights. As a background, I generally resolve to limit my use of apps that lock me in to their ecosystem for managing document content. Hence also my continued great applause for your solid efforts to allow us to export annotation notes to ma...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser

I read this with some interest. I might pose my thoughts as below. > and something I don't think is available elsewhere on the Mac (I could be wrong, it's big software universe). I might point to [Flexcil](https://www.flexcil.com) for iOS. Perhaps this app approaches what you have in mind as a UI fo...

Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments

I appreciate the clarification. Changing Create Comment to Add Text really does help distinguish the action. Clarity will also be improved if the term “comment” is reserved solely for text that we can add (and remove) on highlighted or underlined phrases. The prefix “PDF” would then not be needed fo...

Can we change the author for annotations and markups?

The author for annotations and markups to PDFs defaults to the full user ID. Do we have a way to change this? For comparison, Preview and PDFExpert give a global Setting to define an author. Acrobat forces you to change the author on each annotation one-at-a-time (ugh!).

Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments

I am also often confused by the variations in terminology --> comment, note, PDF note, and note card. We also have an option to "quote" selected text as opposed to selecting note card. Respectfully for due consideration, as you think about possible improvements, I would have an easier time...

Re: Off the wall: How do you organize your references (reading lists)

I appreciate the reminder about this question. 1) I do not use BE to insert citations directly. My documents are in LaTeX. I export the citations from BE into a bib file. 2) I use BE on iPad to read and annotate. I find BE iPadOS to be well-suited for these tasks compared to other citation managemen...

Re: Badges with number of references

I prefer a way that will allow me to display only the count (of references) on groups and not the count (of sub-folders and groups) on folders. So, yes, I prefer also the fourth option.

Re: Badges with number of references

I find little to no use for folder badges. I would be pleased to have the additional option in the context menu to Show/Hide Group Badges. The four resulting views would be 1) all badges hidden, 2) only folder badges shown, 3) only group badges shown, and 4) folder and group badges shown. The first ...

Re: Citation key options for multiple authors

I imagine the OP is not asking to change the four default cite key options (Author + Year, Author + Year + UniqueID, ...). Rather, the request is to provide customizable options beyond the existing four defaults. With the flexibility that I have learned in using formats across other cases, I can sup...

Re: Attachements in subfolders and sync

Yes, the macOS version of Bookends flattens the entire Attachments folder. It is entirely unaware of sub-folder locations to distinguish files. Hence, you cannot have a working Bookends library contain both of these files at the same time ...Attachments/subfolder1/Test.pdf and ...Attachments/subfold...

Workflow Example: Bookends -> Obsidian

I have posted a Workflow Example for Bookends -> Obsidian in the Obsidian forum at the link below. https://forum.obsidian.md/t/workflow-example-bookends-bibliography-management-macos-obsidian/57867 I hope this is useful information for those who need insights or guidance on how to set up the two app...

Re: Attachements in subfolders and sync

For your apparent needs, an alternative option with less administrative overhead may be for you to use Finder tags rather than sub-folders in the Attachments folder. When you move a reference file into a static group "cleaning" for example, tag the attachment for the reference with the Fin...

Re: Consolidating attachments of a specific library into a separate subfolder

When you are comfortable with how to install or copy+paste an AppleScript, you may find benefit from the script posted at this link: https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5566 I am also moving reference files around between attachment sub-folders. I run the script selecting all three ...

Re: Script: Report Stats

This version is redesigned to open with a multi-choice dialog. You only need to pre-define two properties: errLabel is the label number to use to designate references with orphaned attachments and tagAttachment is the tag color number to use at the Finder level. Pre-setting each to -1 will avoid lab...

Using Bookends browser for term-based searches on dedicated search sites

I want to use the Bookends browser to search broadly on sites such as my university library or SciFinder (or GoogleScholar). I am finding that I can directly import a reference when I find it going through the search return results. I have two questions as I test this approach. * The browser history...
