That's covered in the User Guide. It depends on the setting in your Preferences. The default is ~/Documents/Bookends/Attachments.

Yes, Bookends opens the last opened db on launch. So the workaround you suggest will work (it's not too much of a hassle since you can use the "recent" item in the File -> Open menu).

I've thought of something like this, too, although I don't know how useful it would really be. One thing I can comment on is your request for rebuild/reindex status. Bookends 9.0.4 will have some very nice new features in this regard.

Hm, sounds like the info you have is only for browser access. If so, you would do your search using the browser and, if they provide it, export the references as a file that Bookends can import (usually an EndNote Refer file or a RIS file).
