Most fields are not dedicated (meaning, they have no specific features tied to them). There is nothing to prevent one from using the Date field for year and assigning another field for Month & Day (in fact, that's what we do for the Newspaper type, assigning the latter to User3). Everything woul...

Bookends doesn't have a dedicated year and month/date field, so when you export as XML it splits up the year from the rest. You can do one of the following: 1. Global move in Bookends to a custom field, then move that to the date field in the target application. 2. Do a global edit (if possible) in ...

Hi,

That's covered in the User Guide. It depends on the setting in your Preferences. The default is ~/Documents/Bookends/Attachments.

Then make a Term List for the Location field. Now you'll have autocomplete.

That's logical. To prevent it, end the name with a comma:

3M Inc,

and Bookends will leave it alone.

Hi Chris,

Yes, Bookends opens the last opened db on launch. So the workaround you suggest will work (it's not too much of a hassle since you can use the "recent" item in the File -> Open menu).

Hi tharpold,

I've thought of something like this, too, although I don't know how useful it would really be. One thing I can comment on is your request for rebuild/reindex status. Bookends 9.0.4 will have some very nice new features in this regard.

Hi Danny,

This code is already in place and it works in my tests...are you using 9.0.3? If so, please send me a small db and your SBL format again (I may have an old copy) and I'll test it again.

Thanks Jonathan. I'm agnostic on this. I can change it or leave it alone (I think Shift-Command-+ makes sense, too, FWIW). If anyone else cares to weigh in, please do. If it's controversial, I'd leave it the way it is.

Hi ozean,

Thanks, I didn't know that. Fortunately, at least in the example above, it looks like that wouldn't be a problem for Bookends.

Hi,

Upon a little reflection, I came up with this:

a, t|~ (~u11~)~|~, ed++. ~e|~, trans. ~u3 ` (`l:$ $u|~, ~d`)`

It even works if you don't have any of the information that would normally be output in the parentheses.

Fair enough. But realistically, are there situations where you know the place of publication but not the publisher?

Hm, sounds like the info you have is only for browser access. If so, you would do your search using the browser and, if they provide it, export the references as a file that Bookends can import (usually an EndNote Refer file or a RIS file). You may want to contact the Stanford library folks for more...
