I can't test this because I don't have a subscription to that service. But it could be that their server is down, or that something has changed in the contact info (Internet tab of the filter).

Hi,

No, I don't think so. Bookends doesn't do well with some of the subtleties of MLA. You'd have to edit these situations manually after the scan.

Those are teminal commands? If so, that's not using the Spotlight API.

But it makes little difference with regard to speed in any case -- once a single search has been done subsequent searches are very fast (caching).

Well, if you see how to do this, let me know. My guess is that the searches are actually system-wide, but the utility filters out any except the ones in the folder you specified. But perhaps there really is something in the API I missed. As for the "best" search, I'm convinced there isn't ...

Re: nice added feature - a few comments

1) It might work faster if one could limit the searching to a particular directory of pdfs (as an option). You can't limit Spotlight searches to a directory (or at least I haven't seen a way to). 2) More importantly, in at least one case, a record found one pdf and matched it "automagically&qu...

The reason is that the shipping APA Citations format is slightly incorrect. There is a field on the first tab called Between last names For the Journal Article Type, it is correctly set as & ^, & //note the space at the end But for all other Types it is incorrectly set as , & To fix this...

Yes, I see it, too. It only happens when there are two authors. I'll take a look and see what the problem is.

Just for the heck of it, copy/paste from one to the other, so we're sure they are identical. And if that doesn't help, try rebuilding the database.

It's not appending the letters because the citations aren't identical. Check the actual references -- is there an empty line between the first and second author, for example? Bookends would consider that the "second author".

Hi,

This is a function of the format you are using. The settings for such things are kept in the format definition. Please see the section of the User Guide that goes over formats, and if you still have questions post them here.

It doesn't happen on my Intel iMac, either. I doubt this is related to 10.4.8 (unless others start to report something). I'm dealing with this problem as a tech support issue with Amaru.

I'm using the same, and I get the superscripted text in Mellel. Maybe it's one of those famous settings in Mellel that's preventing the superscript from showing up. Try editing the bibliography preferences in Mellel.

Any chance you changed the superscript character in Preferences? If you send the bibliography to the Bibliography Window, do you see the caret?

After thinking about this a bit, I realized that Bookends should actually handle this in formts now. I tried it for a bibliography entry and it worked fine. A snippet of the format is

a. ^u2^d

where the edition is in field user2.
