As you know, attachments are no longer kept in the Keywords field in Bookends 9. Try rebuilding your database in Bookends 7 and then re-exporting the Bookends file. If that doesn't work, you can send me your Bookends 7 database and I'll take a look (zip it first, please).

It's an interesting idea. But realize that it adds very little to what Bookends already does now -- the combination of Spotlight search followed by the Live Search works well. The inclusion of a Spotlight search in the Find dialog (or smart groups) saves a few steps, that's all.

You mean, search for all references where an attachment contains "world war II" and the author (in the reference entry) is "Gerben" and the date in the reference entry is "2001"? No, that's not possible. You can, however, do a spotlight search for all references where a...

Hi,

I can't answer your Turabian style questions (I'll leave that to those that know), but if you want "no." entered by Bookends, you can create a new Type (Book in series) and create a format for it that includes "no.".

Hi,

Can you give a url to such a citation? And what browser are you using? I assume you are importing by dragging the proxy icon, is that right?

Hi, This will be an interesting thread to watch. Note that there is no need to make a hasty or partially formed decision. Sente has a 30 day trial, I believe, and Bookends has a time-unlimited trial (limited to 50 references, though, which should be enough to actually use it to write a paper of mode...

Ah, I see. The Find dialog (and the basic smart group is the same) is meant to provide a simple interface that's accessible and satisfies the vast majority of needs. The SQL search is provided for power users who need more. At least, that't the theory. As a point of academic interest, there is anoth...

There is no way to alter the way that SQL commands work (that's a standard). Would you explain in a bit more detail what you want, and how you would see it implemented?

Hi, It's not shift-double-click. It's select the attachment you want to open (the contextual menu when you click on the Attach icon in the reference window, or the one when you right-click on the paper clip icon in the List View) with the Shift key held down. The attachment will open in Preview (or ...

Probably because the metadata is set to nonsense characters (instead of TEXT or null) -- the metadata overrides the extension. You can always drag and drop for import, though -- in that case the extension will be honored even if the metadata is incorrect.

Danny, Bookends has done this forever. Look at the import dialog box -- there is an option for "import from clipboard".

Bookends give you many ways to view the first page of a pdf, and one to open the pdf in another window. With a double-click you can open it in Preview (which offers far more flexibility than anything Bookends could in dealing with it). Conceivably we could make the Info Drawer image tab or the Attac...

Hi, thanks.

You know that you can see the pdf in the Info Drawer, right (just the first page)?

As for seeing the whole pdf in Bookends, you can if you double-click on it with the Shift key held down (it opens in a Bookends window, and you can scroll from page to page).
