Defining default attachments subfolder for local library (not synced)
It seems that we can define a sub-folder for attachments only after we have set up a sync service. Otherwise, the Settings for the LOCAL LIBRARY does not expose the tab to set and move PDF files into a Default Attachment Subfolder. I'd like to have the option to define the default attachments sub-fo...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
Very cool features. ... ... But, the biggest drawback with [certain] apps (for reading and annotating pdf) is that the annotation is database-internal. It can be exported separately; but the annotation of the pdf doesn't follow the standard-adobe annotation system. ... Jon, you made really great de...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
@Jon ... FWIW, the other app that I tested to manage PDF annotations is [ZenReader](https://zenreader.co.uk). It acts as a cross between Obsidian (as an electron app) and Highlights and LiquidText / MarginNote. It requires an on-line connection even to run the free version. Perhaps the videos that d...

Re: Formatting annotation extractions: feature request
I see how the use of different markdown formatting can improve the ease in recognizing the source format for an annotation extracted from a PDF. The different types of annotations in a PDF are * highlight * underline * PDF note * comment The different types of (BE) notes (stored as notecards) are * ...

Re: Workflow Example: Bookends -> Obsidian
@Dellu -- I appreciate the request. Let me try to answer. I need to have a collaborative macOS<->Windows workflow to share information about references with my colleagues who work on Windows systems. While Mendeley, Zotero, Papers, or EndNote will provide the collaboration out-of-the-box, BE fits my...

Copy reference from one library to another?
Do we have a way to copy a reference from one library to another? The reference includes an attached PDF with annotations.
If not, I post a feature request to have the ability to Share or Copy a reference from one library directly to a different library.

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights
You have a rather sophisticated workflow. Nicely done! I expect one limitation may eventually be in the reliability of your iCloud sync. I do not see a way to bring a reference on the iPad into the Hits list on macOS. For this reason, I foresee a complicated process in the effort to create an automa...

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights
@postdoctoral -- Reading your processing steps on the PDF annotations, you could script this way 1) Detect that a PDF has been annotated (already completed) 2) Fire off a script that ... 2a) runs the extract PDF annotations menu using selected references as default ... Set this up by selecting a PDF...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
As from past postings, I was confounded in making distinctions between the terms (PDF) Note, PDF Note, and (Bookends) Note. Your diligence to use either PDF Note (explicit) or Note (implicit for Bookends Note) is appreciated. Pedantic that I am as such, I might point out for example that the menu fo...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
A BibTeX file is inevitably an immutable resource that could just as well be written in a read-only mode. One-way sync makes sense for this case. Should you consider simply extending the Extract PDF Annotations option, I might offer these thoughts. * While the process to Extract and Save may seem si...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
Jon: Glad to hear about the progress on this. 1) As much as I would love the (automatic) sync to work with annotations as well as notes, I understand the limitations. Given also that we now have the option to collect annotations including notes, and given that Bookends can be scripted to run the col...

Re: Request/idea: NoteCard browser
Jon: I am glad my comments resonated and sparked further insights. As a background, I generally resolve to limit my use of apps that lock me in to their ecosystem for managing document content. Hence also my continued great applause for your solid efforts to allow us to export annotation notes to ma...

I read this with some interest. I might pose my thoughts as below. > and something I don't think is available elsewhere on the Mac (I could be wrong, it's big software universe). I might point to [Flexcil](https://www.flexcil.com) for iOS. Perhaps this app approaches what you have in mind as a UI fo...

Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments
I appreciate the clarification. Changing Create Comment to Add Text really does help distinguish the action. Clarity will also be improved if the term “comment” is reserved solely for text that we can add (and remove) on highlighted or underlined phrases. The prefix “PDF” would then not be needed fo...
