Re: Handling of the "https://" part of URLs
I agree with many of the points in that article. I was also amazed to discover that place of publication is no longer considered relevant information in preparing a bibliography. My impression is that the new style guide hoped to take into account the almost infinite types of media that could be cit...

Re: Handling of dates (MLA 8 style)
I figured as much, but thought it was worth asking just in case. Thanks.

Handling of dates (MLA 8 style)
I am citing a number of electronic resources in an MLA 8 style document. It seems the current recommendation is to include an access date for the resource in the works cited. I've kept track of access dates as I was going along in standard American format, e.g. 02/08/2018. I now see that the MLA gui...

Re: Handling of the "https://" part of URLs
That's not a problem, thanks for your guidance.
I have to grudgingly admit that the works cited looks much cleaner without the http:// prefixes!

Re: Handling of the "https://" part of URLs
Very much appreciated! I renamed User20 as "Tidy URL" and followed your instructions to strip out the prefix.
Just one question: is there any way to move this new field into the "Main" editing window from "Additional Fields"?

Re: Handling of the "https://" part of URLs
Thanks for the reply. I also have my doubts about this guideline, as there are other Internet protocols that could be referenced (such as gopher:// or ftp://) in addition to http://. There is more information about this guideline on the MLA website, where it is pointed out that it is mainly intended...

Handling of the "https://" part of URLs
I just noticed that the latest version of the MLA Style Guide (8th edition) says that the current recommendation is to omit the http:// prefix in URLS: When giving a URL, copy it in full from your Web browser, but omit http:// or https:// . Is there any way to tell Bookends to pass on the URL to the...

Getting started with conditional groups
I have just started to try to make some adjustments to the way my bibliographies are prepared using the format manager. I am working with MLA 8th edition style and, even though it's not strictly necessary, I would like to link to electronic resources where available in my bibliography. Of course, no...

Oxford University - access denied
I discovered today that when I tried to do an Online Search of the Oxford University catalog, an "Access to specified database is denied" error is returned. I am not affiliated with Oxford University but have found the library catalog a great resource. I wonder if anyone has any advice as ...

Short titles in Bookends + Mellel
I am working in MLA style 8th edition, which allows for short titles to disambiguate multiple texts by the same author. Like the full titles of books, the short titles should be italicized. I have the formats manager in Bookends set up to reflect this. The tricky thing is that sometimes the short ti...

National Library of Austria (Österreichische Nationalbibliothek)
I would really find it useful to be able to search the catalog of the National Library of Austria directly from Bookends. I wonder if there is anyone out there who has an import filter to share? The main search page for the library is here: http://search.obvsg.at/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?

Online Search - change to library catalogues available as sources?
After updating to Bookends 12.7.6, I seem to have access to a reduced list of sources in the Online Search area (i.e. Amazon, Google Scholar, Library of Congress, PubMed, Bookends Browser). The extended list of library catalogues, such as Oxford University Library, has vanished! I know that many of ...

MLA Handbook 8th edition
As those of us who work in the humanities will be aware, the Modern Language Association has just released a major update to its style guide in the 8th edition of the MLA Handbook. I have only had a chance to read through it quickly, but it looks like there are some pretty big changes to their recom...
