Depends on the style you use. Some styles might command you to cite them in a certain form.

I treat them as separate books. Most of the journals in my field use the APA style. Putting them as separate books in BE, and putting the volume in the Vol field appears to work fine.

That is true. Since it is implemented in the preferences, I am totally happy about it.
