Re: Duplicated citation keys
Thank you for the suggestion dear @DrJJWMac The most ideal situation would be provide a format like the attachment renaming format. Preferences 2022-04-09 12-04-47.jpg That way, I would program the format to use different patterns just like in Jabref and many other reference managers. @Book.bib - Li...

Duplicated citation keys
This problem has been bugging me for a long time. I have three BE libraries. BE is smart enough to keep the bibtex keys unique within a single library. But, it has no capacity to compare across libraries. So, I am getting a lot of duplicated citation keys, and the latex compiler is constantly annoyi...

Re: Much time needed to open groups
The internal cache doesn't seem to have any effect. I put it on the max; 200. I have also tried it on 20. One of my library contains 12,000 items. Still, opening a group doesn't last longer than 2 seconds. There is sth wrong with your library. Rebuilding your library might help. Have you tried that?

Re: Autofill from Internet using embedded ISBN?
I thought BE already does that. If BE doesn't already do that, it think this might be worthy of consideration. 1. it has been done by other reference managers--I think Zotero does this--https://libguides.massgeneral.org/zotero/metadata. 2. the process doesn't seem that different from that of Doi: ju...

Re: Find similar (but not identical) PDFs ?
I have tried almost every duplicate finder app. https://macpaw.com/gemini says it can identify similar files. But, in practice, it is very ineffective. In my experience it is Devonthink (and some scripts https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/find-and-remove-similar-duplicated-files/46291 ) that ...

Re: author parser: multiple Author separaters
It has the option, but it's ignored internally for BibTeX. BibTeX is a special case and follows special rules. It expects " and " between authors. I suppose I could disable that field (punct between authors) if the format specifies BibTeX, but it's not something I anticipated anyone chang...

Re: author parser: multiple Author separaters
What import filter were you using. If it's BibTeX, it expects all authors to be separated with the word " and ". Jon Sonny Software Yes, I am using the bibtex filter. It has option in the manager to change it to comma as well. Doesn't it? But, the problem is I am having mixed separators s...

Re: author parser: multiple Author separaters
The author parser in BE is not flexible enough to be functional to parse different patterns of input. I went with Keyboard Maestro. For any one interested in parsing authors of different formats: here is a wonderful KM macro: https://forum.keyboardmaestro.com/t/parsing-author-names-to-bibtex-format/...

File: Sandra A. Thompson, Robert E. Longacre, And Shin Ja J. Hwang Imported: Hwang, Sandra A. Thompson, Robert E. Longacre, And Shin Ja J. I used the "comma" separater. But, the file contains "and" separater as well (putting "and" before the last author is a usual way o...

Re: PDF annotation changes -- comments
I've been working on a major change in the way Bookends manipulates selected PDF text. Currently, you select the text and apply actions via the Action popup menu (e.g. highlight, add to the library as a notecard, etc.). In the new mechanism, selecting text will immediately bring up a small floating...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
Ok thanks. The developer info is here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/translators — as this all is open-source, it would be technically possible to run these javascript translators using a third-party tool triggered from Bookends and import the data. That would be great. But, even with the curr...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
How would you directly import it into Zotero? Do you need to ask the Zotero developers to provide you with a translator? And if yes, would that translator be valid for all articles from Lingbuzz? Or only for the above mentioned article? I ask because I'm not familiar with 'translators'. You need to...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
Yes, translators are metadata extracting scripts. I think they are written in Javascript. I believe they are two types: The first type uses the metadata already embedded in the webpage (if there is any). That is the easy one. But, the most important ones are the second type which extract references ...

Re: Zotero is to Bookends, as Evernote is for DEvonthink
What export format do you use when you export references from Zotero? Just now I tried Endnote XML, RIS and CSV, but when I tried to import into Bookends nothing was imported. I havn't tried the scanning part of Zotero. As I have noted, I often export my references to BE. But, the BetterBibtex is a...
