Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder
I have a Watch Folder set up to import attachments to a Library. As near as I can tell, newly imported content is marked as a Hit. Great ... this helps to be able review the processing after the fact. But, one exception seems to apply. If the attachment reference already exists in the library, the n...

Re: Remove attachments from batch
Yes storage is cheap these days but honestly, I'd rather not invest in iCloud storage (I'm no where near close to capping it by the way). It was just the fact that the PDF exists in two places. It's not a big deal at all really, just one that has gone on for a couple of years of research and I'm on...

Re: More than one computer (a user has no need for this)
Just a general FYI on CloudKit and iCloud.

Otherwise, I prefer and greatly appreciate using WiFi sync in BE. It allows me a finer control over what does and does not sync.

Re: More than one computer (a user has no need for this)
My reservations about iCloud (and CloudKit) for syncing things remain. Yes, latency and robustness are two different things. Otherwise, I mean absolutely no disrespect, and indeed full respect, to Bookends. Thanks also for the clarifications on File-> Backup. I look for the report on WiFi sync, wher...

Re: Allow right click (to copy citations) when Bookends in background
> As to the search in floating citations, it's not as detailed as the library live search, and doesn't have the option to use non-indexed searching. But it did, it would find your tagged references without ambiguity if you only used them in Notes. OK. I tested the "#result" search directly...

Re: More than one computer (a user has no need for this)
I suggest that @happycatmachine is simply suggesting that the phrasing ... (a single user has no need for this) ... might simply be eliminated. In follow up to your description ... Note that you cannot run Bookends with the same license key simultaneously on more than one computer. If you attempt to...

Re: Remove attachments from batch
@happycatmachine ... With your comments, I might suggest that you change your processing steps. First question though ... Are you indexing or importing to DevonThink? I presume you are importing. If so, I recommend that you live with two copies of the PDF, one (raw source) in Bookends and one (annot...

Re: Allow right click (to copy citations) when Bookends in background
All right. I am ... impressed ... coming across this for the first time. Can the floating citation window also allow for restrictions to specific fields (as per the search in BE)? Why? I am using tags such as #why or #result in note fields. I would like to use the floating citation window to search ...

Re: Bookends 14.1.7: Citekeys
Apologies. The clarification is appreciated. Clearly, I misunderstood the reason behind the request for a checkbox to limit cite keys to ASCII, especially since I only use ASCII in cite keys if only for the (perhaps unfounded) fear that unicode is not the most well-implemented standard in other apps...

Re: Bookends 14.1.7: Citekeys
Do not mistake setting a base standard as default and providing an opt in method to move beyond with falling back and chaining to a punishing limitation.

Re: Bookends 14.1.7: Citekeys
I appreciate the flexibility in Bookends. Flexibility that breaks conventions to work efficiently with external apps should be provided using an OPT-IN approach. So, anything that goes beyond what BibTeX limits in cite key formats should be set in Bookends *by specific request from the user*. By exa...

Off Topic: Limitations on Using the Orcid ID Feature
I was excited to try the Orchid ID feature in Bookends. I discovered however that my Orcid ID is not registered within OpenAlex. When I enter my Orcid ID in the Bookends settings, I get the message that ... "This ORCID ID does not exist, isn't in the OpenAlex database, or has no public content....

Re: Selector in Preferences for Default epub Viewer?
It may work - my advice is just be very wary with a new conversion path at first - I've been a couple of hundred pages into a text that I have heavily annotated when it blows up In such a case, I imagine that other methods, such as through ghostscript or pandoc, might also carry the same warning. I...

Re: Selector in Preferences for Default epub Viewer?
FWIW, PDFExpert (macOS) offers to convert an ePub directly to PDF at the point where you try to open the ePub with it. I imagine its iPadOS version might do the same (not tested).
