Not unlimited Jon I'm no programmer but it does seem like that would be alot of hassle for little benefit. The use names TLS specified a very long type of reference, requiring 20 fields. For that type of work we would also add keywords, notes, abstract, language, price, ISBN. That's 26 fields. Is t...

That way the abstract field could remain the same size, and the user could toggle between abstract and notes, the latter gaining more space. You mean have one field that shows either Abstract OR Notes, depending on which tab is active? Jon I don't really like this idea, as someone else said, the no...

Tharpold, Thanks for that. I can understand the limitations you see. My second suggestion in the info drawer may make sense for those of us who still like the picture, but it does not cause any 'blank spots' for the entries which are journals (my db is primarily articles as well). As to the info fro...

BTW, you do know that in 8.1.3 you can view and edit the Notes field in the Info Drawer? You can make that as big as you like. P.S. Also, in case you missed it, you can always enlarge any field in the reference window by clicking on its name. Thanks. I knew about the way to enlarge fields. Had not ...

I like the vertical split in the abstract field. I am using the note field more often than the abstract field (I do excerpts and abstracts in OmniOutliner and attach those) – a bigger notes field would be welcome and it would open up space for at least one more field without causing visual clutte...

GUI and more fields- a discussion

I hope this post is not seen as abrasive, I'm hoping it will generate some feedback from users that may be beneficial to Jon. And hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm complaining, because I love Bookends. I think the biggest thing us users are asking for is more fields (am I right?) and at the same t...

formatting questions

I use one format for my bibliography which in turn uses another format for my footnotes. My bibliography format is customed to place a ", " before cited pages, and "." after. However, I need the comma to go into quotation marks. Here is the example; Collins, "Book of Revelat...

Bookends is unicode savvy- so it can store roman and non-roman fonts well. It can also output your Chicago style easily. As to the learning curve, that is specific to each person. It takes some effort to wrap your head around how Bookends works, but as to the amount of time, it depends on you. It to...

Still having the same problem with cutting text from Preview and pasting it without styles in Bookends. Occasionally it just keeps the same style, other times it will switch it to Lucida Grande (my default font) but not default size (12). When I highlight this type of text and toggle it (command/shi...

iSight scanning

I'm not sure if anyone has asked this before, but I was wondering if the ability to scan barcodes of books is something that will be coming to Bookends internet (amazon) search.

Frig, I'm an idiot. Don't bother looking into it Jon. Stephen, my apologies. Go into the formats manager and open 'SBL Bib' (NOT SBL footnote), then in the Bib&Doc options in the lower right hand corner, make sure page range is chosen, and in the 'before' field place a comma+space, and in the 'a...

same problem

Jon, I am having the same problem, and like Stevietheb it worked fine the last time I wrote a paper (2 months ago). As far as I can tell the format is correct, the only thing I changed was in the bib&doc options under cited pages, I took out the comma from the 'before' field, which eliminated th...

followup

Sorry for the delay-
i cut and paste from a PDF text, and paste it 'without style'. It will paste into Bookends in the proper font, but does not change the size.

And, can my whole database be converted to a font-size type?

toggled fonts

I have a question concerning the default fonts. Is there a way to have the toggled fonts also be assigned a default size? I toggle between times new roman and lucida grande, but if i paste something in the wrong font and size, I still have to change the size manually. Can size be included in the tog...

italics

hmm, okay this is a little glitch. Go into the bibliographic format file, and go to the secondary citation section for the particular type (i.e. journal, book, chapter, etc.) It may be that because the s. is italicized, then the formatter italicizes the page number (Jon can correct me if I'm wrong)....
