You are right, the file that was called "Bookends" in my ~/Library/Preferences folder seems to have been a leftover from an earlier version or some such.

However, the other file – called "Bookends 8.plist" – will be recreated even after deleting it…

Just to give some additional info since there are several (three) preference files for Bookends in ~/Library/Preferences : The location of windows (and, as Jon mentioned, the serial number) is stored in the file called "Bookends 8 Preferences" (without quotes). Just out of curiosity: why a...

secondary display & resetting of window positions

Jon, usually I have a secondary monitor attached to my PowerBook. On this monitor I let Bookends display the list view of my main database. However, currently I am on the road and have no additional displays attached but the list window does not appear on the remaining main screen! If I use Exposé ...

Please make it an internationally compatible. Which would probably mean storing the date in the ISO format (i.e. something like 2005-05-18 ).

Thanks for implementing this!

Hoping not to add more confusion:

If I read his example correctly, quotation marks aren't the only character that is affected.

For example "J?§hnichen" should probably read "Jähnichen"…

Are you using Bookends 8.0.3 ? To me this sounds like a bug that has been solved a while ago, when non-ASCII chars were wrongly replaced by two Unicode entities…

Hehe, we all keep an eye on that topic in the Mellel forums… It would be great to have the Omni apps, Mellel, and Bookends integrate in such a way.

Import filter with umlaut in name doesn't work

I have just discovered another bug related to special characters in files used by Bookends:

If you name a filter using an umlaut (or other non-ASCII character, I would guess) importing internet search results into the database does not work. Everything else seems to work fine though.

Double click in Import Filters list - minimize filter window

When I double click on an entry in the Import Filter Manager window, the filter window appears with its title bar at the position where I performed the double click. The problem is that the double click action also gets applied to the title bar of the filter which minimizes the window…

Is HD/Library/Application Support writable by non-admin users? If not it would probably be better (less customer support troubles ;) ) if you would default to ~/Library/Application Support. If people want to make the customized stuff available to all users, they can move the respective filters and o...

Yay! That will be a great improvement. The way it is handled now, I always experience a subtle fear of loosing my customized stuff when updating Bookends… It will be a relief to freely trash the Bookends folder like I do with other apps when I update them. Away with the old dusty app, here comes a...

In your sample scripts you did not include commands for the custom stuff in /Applications/Bookends Folder - since pkdavis wants to transport his custom format changes this needs to be copied too. This is one of the very few grudges regarding OS X standards that I have with Bookends: it should really...

In Germany, "u.a." (und andere) can also used instead of "et al." I would guess that many non-english speaking countries will have other abbreviations for this case too. The negative impact on the UI's complexity doesn't seem to be overwhelming in this case IMO: there already is ...

I also would prefer to have my bibliography created so that multiple works by the same author can be preceded by customizable characters.

Would you consider adding this feature to a future update of Bookends? That would be awesome!

Creating web pages - missing ExamplePage.html file

I am currently trying to set up a Bookends database web server. In the section of the User Guide called "Creating Web pages to access Bookends databases" you mention a template file called "ExamplePage.html" - this file seems to be missing from your distribution…
