Hi Michael, Maybe someone who takes the approach you do to dealing with references has a better answer than I, because I've certainly never done anything like that. I'll offer a suggestion that I'm sure you won't particularly like, but I think it will work. And if you really have to manually go thro...

You have to chage it by Type (that's a feature, BTW!).

I don't know about footnotes (it shouldn't matter), but that's not the way to use cited pages.

Define the preceding , and the following . in the format itself. Just do this in the text:

@4

Bookens should run fine on the new Intel Macs as it is -- have you found a problem? In time we do plan to transition to Universal Binaries.

Re: Conversion tip for dbs with long names

I'm looking into a solution, and if I find one I'll upload it. But for now, use this workaround if you encounter this problem. Once your databases are converted it will no longer be an issue. I've made a change that seems to work. If you are having problems with converting databases with long names...

I see the problem (EN 7 XML). Download Bookends 9 again, it has been taken care of.

Hi SteveJ,

Yes, you can do a Find for reference Type (look near the top of the Find dialog:

[checkbox] where Type is/is not [Type pop-up menu]

BTW, was that EN 7 or 8/9 XML? I see why it imports to the wrong field.

Re: SmallCaps and Mellel

- When I change footnotes style to 10 point size, I get ALLCAPS like in Mellel. Word may be "fixing" things, too. Don't forget, small caps are 4 points smaller than the default in Bookends (so if Bookends is set to output 12 point, the small caps are 6 point). If Word is set to override t...

Conversion tip for dbs with long names

Hi All, It turns out there is a bug (in the Finder, I believe) that will prevent a converted Bookends 9 database's file Type from "taking" if the converted file name is too long (> 31 chars I think). That's causing Bookends to repeatedly ask to convert the file, and resulting in an error a...

Ha, you're right. I never looked (for years, anyway -- I think they added it for PC people). You're right. And yes, it should work without losing the cursor in the drawer (it doesn't for me, and I gather now it doesn't for you). Note that Mac OS X 10.3 has bugs in it that affect drawers, so some gli...

Hm, is it a setting in Mellel, perhaps (e.g. font size in footnotes)?

Honestly, I don't know what Alt is. Is that the Option key? The Control key? The Command key?

I don't know -- the conversion does not touch the original file at all (it makes a copy first). Zip and send me a small database, if possible, that is going you problems.

Re: Aha

I think the problem is that the database file name was too long. I changed it, converted, and it seems to be working ok. I think BE9 may have trouble with database names that are too long, whereas BE8 was ok. I can't reproduce that. Bookends handles very long names here. Perhaps you can zip and sen...
