barcode scanning
Has anyone tried digitizing their library using a barcode scanner? Is there an easy way to batch-import the ISBN numbers from the barcode scanner into Bookends and have Bookends auto-complete the reference? Or has someone tried going through Google Library, as laid out here http://www.mattcutts.com/...

Re: How to sync with Dropbox?
It's been sometime since I tried that and cannot remember if it works as intended (my setup is now different so I cannot verify the procedure). In my experience, anyway, symlinking preferences files to the Dropbox folder is not as reliable as one would expect. So proceed with caution I can second t...

Re: Way to force capitalization of proper nouns in sentence case
A few iterations of Bookends ago we added the ability to have Bookends treat a title "as entered" regardless of the case rules for the format. Follow it with a comma (just as you would with an institution as an "author") Hi Jon, Yes, it's an old thread, but my comment is precise...

Re: Way to force capitalization of proper nouns in sentence case
This new feature is great and works very well for books. How do you use it for book chapters? Example: Jacques d’Hondt, “Die Einschätzung Des Revolutionären Krieges Durch Hegel,” in Materialien Zu Hegels Rechtsphilosophie , ed. Manfred Riedel (Frankfurt a.M.: Suhrkamp, 1974). Using the comma after t...

Advice re: library managers
I own a few thousand books, stored at home and in my office, and I need a better way of keeping track of them and find ways of better integrating the material I have into my work flow. Currently, less than a quarter of my books are entered in my Bookends library, which means that I often overlook th...

Re: Request: user control over what is included in bibliography
Do you mean the Bibliography Options tab? Something like "Cite the linked parent (if available) in the bibliography"? Yes, that would be a good implementation. Maybe "Cite only linked parent (if available) in the bibliography". The other (more complicated) option would be to let...

Request: user control over what is included in bibliography
Jon suggested to raise this issue in the forum to see what others think. I would like more control over what references are included in the bibliography. Specifically, I would like to link references in such a way that when reference A, B, and C are cited in the document, only reference A is include...

References to texts in Collected Works / chapters in books
I am in the Humanities, I use Chicago Style and In my daily use of Bookends & Mellel, I keep running into the following problem: When citing books from an author's Collected Works, I often want different information displayed in the footnotes than in the bibliography. For instance: In the footno...
