Re: Citing literature in different languages
I meant a project which contains of literature both in English and German and some other languages. Could you recommend how to use Bookends in that case? I'm afraid I don't understand your problem anymore. So before I go into more detail, let's make a few things clear first. 1) In what language is ...

How to contact a forum member?
Is there a way to directly contact a forum member without having the message appearing in the forum itself? Basically, the forum software seems to allow this, but the feature has been disabled, so it seems.
Could this be fixed?
Thanks.

Re: Multiple Last Names
"Van" is obviously equivalent to "van" in Dutch and to "von" in German, and it (originally) means "from"; so "van Zyl" originally meant 'from Zyl', I suppose. It's now used as a surname. Or in other words, it seems this guy has two surnames. You have...

Re: Multiple Last Names
Hello Stephen, if you want the cited author to be Van Zyl Slabbert, Frederik then enter Van Zyl Slabbert, Frederik into the Authors field. A comma after a string causes it to be output exactly as you entered it. ---- In this particular case, I'm not sure whether "van" should actually be co...

Re: Citing literature in different languages
(p. for pages in English, S. for pages in German, different terms for "Editors" and so on). How can you deal with it? If your paper, book (or whatever) is to be published in other languages than English, you need a special format for each language. To create a new language specific format...

Re: Hyperlinks to reference in Nisus Writer Pro
This can be done in Nisus Writer Pro:
(1) Bookmark the numbers in the bibliography
(2) Cross-reference each numbered reference citation.
See details here:

Re: Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formats Manager
Bookends does *not* permanently default fo the Journal Article Type. That's what I was trying to explain. It defaults to the *first* Type in the popup menu (which are ordered as they were entered). Yep, I understood that already. Mea culpa, I should have written "It defaults to the *first* Typ...

Re: Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formatting Manager
You can choose the default reference type now It seems you misunderstood me. I'm not talking about Preferences > Refs > Default new reference Type. I'm talking about Biblio > Formats Manager > Bibliography Options > Type Until now, this pop-up menu permanently defaults to "Journal article"...

Re: Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formatting Manager
may I suggest you wait to do this? Yes, I'll do that. Alternatively, you can select the format of interest and click the plus button Yes, I have done that many times in the past, and that's exactly one of the dangerous moments when Bookends silently switches back to the default Type and any changes...

Re: Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formatting Manager
if you were to do this, I'd copy the Primary Order field (and Subsequent, if not empty) and paste it into something like TextEdit. Then when you recreate the delete Journal Article Type, paste them back from TextEdit. Yes, that's what I wanted to hear. I was thinking about this too. Losing the fiel...

Re: Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formatting Manager
Select Journal Article and then -> Remove Type. If I do what you suggest and delete the Journal article type, will then the field order of journal articles be permanently deleted too? Or in other words, I certainly don't want to be completely without the possibility of being able to enter Journal a...

Allow the user to choose the default Type in the Formats Manager
One thing is particularly annoying in Bookends. Every time the Formats Manager is opened the Type defaults to Journal article . When I select my favorite Type Book and then change the format (by clicking on a different .fmt file) the Type is also silently changed and defaults back to Journal article...

Re: Make Bookends open in the group I was last working in
Thank you Jon for reminding me about this additional option. I was actually aware that one can filter groups, but it may take quite a while (the turning beach ball!), and besides that I am visually orientated and I often don't remember the exact title of the group! Sorting groups alphabetically woul...

Make Bookends open in the group I was last working in
Feature request : Every time I start Bookends it defaults back to the All-Group instead of opening in the group I was last working in. This is just a pain in the butt. Wouldn't it be possible to automatically save the working location before I quit the program? This is particularly annoying if one ...

Re: How to number inline custom citations?
"Citation Options" in the Formats Manager has the option of using a number as unique citation. The number can be preceded with text, but not followed by anything else, 2.png thus making it different from and inferior to numbered references which can be both preceded and followed by text. 1...
