But there is something here with Bookends itself, because, like I mentioned above, everytime I try to export like that (and it doesn't work), after closing that screen, my bookends database View Formatted pane is not utf-8; I have to go back into Biblio > Bibliography Form...

In the ignore words > author, I'm typing al, Al (with a line inbetween them). If I close the preferences pane, and then open it again, and go to the "scan and bib" pane again, I get: 愀氀ഀ䄀氀. Just like that.
