Minor bug in preferences

Post by Guest »

Hi!

If you go to preferences -> lists -> fields to display and change the "fields to display" (column 1, 2, 3 etc.) when the database is open, the database closes down, and you have to reload it again (file -> open).

Would it be possible to change that, so that the database is updated "live" without closing down, when you play with the "fields to display"?

And would it be possible to tweak the "view formatted" display in the reference display, so that it instantly updates to any change in the format manager, so that you don't have to click the individual reference in order to apply and see the format changes? Does that make sense?

Regards

Hi Guest,

The closing of the database is not a bug, it is by design. It is a safety feature, and prevents constant redrawing of the window as you play with the options. It may not be terribly attractive, but it is safe (and is noted at the bottom of that window). Maybe this is something I'll look at again at some point in the future.

As for the second point, why not use the Example button in the format window? That's what it is for. Changing the format in the database every time you type a character in the format window is not a great idea... (it would make typing really, really slow, especially if there were multiple db windows open!).
