How do I name imported PDFs with first author only?

Post by jhbarker »

I currently use the web search and PDF import feature, and I was wondering if there is a way to customize the name given to the PDF file in a particular way; specifically, I would like to do [first author]- [title]. That is the convention I have used for years and I have about 2500 PDFs named that way.

The problem is that I can only get Bookends to list all of the authors followed by a dash and then the title. Is there a way to have Bookends just produce the first author's last name?

thanks

Hi,

Yes. In the format you create for this purpose, tell Bookends to use the authors' surname only, then check the "et al." box and tell Bookends to output only the first author's name. You can also empty the text box that tells Bookends what to output after the name (usually "et al.", of course, but it can be anything).
