Bookends & MacBook Air

Hi,
I have planned to substitute my old MacBook with a brand-new MacBook Air in the next month, after the auspicable upgrade of the "old" model by Apple.
Because the little HD of these computers, I wonder if would be possible to have Bookends and my 19000 references database on the internal HD and the huge folder attachment (55,2 GB!) on an external HD. Does the links between references and pdf work anywhere?
