Feature Request: Open Attachment Button

Post by Edwin »

Hi Jon, Love the new 12.5. But the new feature I was hoping for the most did not make it: an open attachment button in the toolbar. I am constantly going to the full-fledged PDFs of references, using Preview as my preferred viewer. Hope you agree....Eddie

Why not Command-Shift=O? Or click on the popup menu above the PDF and select Open PDF With? Or drag and drop the proxy pdf icon (above the pdf) onto whatever app you want to open it in the dock?

I second Edwin’s request. :)

Because I often use the mouse / external trackpad and thus would have to move both hands away from their current location and to the keyboard to use the shortcut. (And I would have to be aware of and memorize it in the first place – something which I wasn’t up to now. Even though I am surprised by this.)

Because I usually do not have the PDF pane open. (Vertical space is a valuable commodity on my laptop and I prefer to see many entries at once in the bibliography list.)

Same as above: because I usually do not have the PDF pane open.

As it stands now, the toolbar offers plenty of room and I am sure I would use such a button quite often. (Currently I am right-clicking on the small attachment icon in list view and then selecting the name of the PDF in the context menu. Quite cumbersome actually, but a bit less cumbersome than clicking on another section of the entry line and then moving the cursor into the "Open attachments with…" submenu.)

Not a big fan of more UI widgets. How about double clicking on the paper clip icon to open the first attached pdf (which in the vast majority of cases is the only attached pdf)?

Jon, That sounds like a great idea. Hopefully its not a lot of work and others agree.

Ozean, Thanks for supporting my request and your detailed response.

Actually, a single click on the paper clip icon is enough. It will be in the next update.
