Spotlight does not find text in Wikipedia articles saved by Safari as Web Archives

Post by Philologist »

Bug report:

I have just found out that Spotlight can not find text in Wikipedia articles that have been saved to disk as Safari Web Archives. This affects Bookends and is the reason why Bookends can't find text in Wikipedia articles stored in the Attachments folder.

Other Safari Web Archives are fine. It's just text in articles from *Wikipedia* that can't be found.

Until Apple fixes this, we will just have to save the articles as PDF files, although that means loosing images, colors disappearing and hot links not being displayed anymore in underlined and blue. :-(

I strongly encourage everybody to send a Bug Report to Apple by going to:

PS
This topic is related to the thread "Letting Bookends perform Spotlight searches on Safari webarchives", which can be found here:

I think I have to correct myself. It seems Spotlight can sometimes find text in Safari Web Archives (other than Wikipedia articles) and sometimes not. I haven't found any pattern; this seems to be unpredictable.
I just tried "Against Presentism", and Spotlight can't find any text there.
