iCloud Drive optimized storage

Post by danzac »

I use the optimized storage feature of iCloud (https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT206170) as I have a large iCloud account. Unfortunately this means that PDFs need to be called from the cloud before they are on my Mac. Is there a way to initiate the call from within Bookends? Right now, I need to go into the Finder and double-click the PDF so that it will be available to Bookends?

I don't know why the PDF isn't downloaded on demand when Bookends tries to open it using standard macOS API calls. I'll have to look into it and see if I can figure out why it's not.

I poked around a bit. I'm not sure it's possible. Please see this note from Apple.

Hmm, that’s unfortunate. I would assume it is doing this very thing on iOS too. Hopefully iCloud will improve this, or allow us to customize which folders are optimized
