Bookends 13: excited! But, what the heck is this VAT in Europe

Very absurd why I have to pay 16 more euros over the American user.
What is wrong in here?

Nothing is wrong. Your country (whichever it is) charges a VAT, which has to be paid by Fastspring. You never noticed?

It used to be smaller. I was surprised when I get 16Euro.

Seems that they have changed it in the last or so years.

But, thanks for the upgrade discount. That componsated the VAT.

I am a bookends user since years...now being asked to pay 41€ for an upgrade seems pretty harsh. Very disappointed! It is ok to pay for an upgrade from time to time, but this is way to much compared to the original price. A 20€ upgrade would be acceptable from my perspective.

Each has to take their own view, remember that the upgrade covers a two-year window so upgrades after that are charged for.

I will upgrade once a project is concluded. I am just glad it is not another monthly subscription, as even a dollar or two each adds up with all the other monthly subscriptions.

If you don't feel the upgrade is worth it you shouldn't buy it -- Bookends 12 works perfectly well. I would note that we last charged for an upgrade about 5 years ago, and between then and now we released 45 free new versions that included many major new features (including cloud sync). You can see the list here:

it has been a while...I do understand your arguments and I am more than happy to pay for an upgrade, yet, asking for 40 USD is quite a bit for an upgrade. Everything between 20-30 USD would have been more appropriate in my perspective. In addition, based in Germany I am asked to pay 40€ instead of 40 USD, which is almost 50 USD with the current exchange rate. 40 USD should be 32€... Any reason for this?

And yes, I can still use just Bookends 12...

Thanks

We only set the price. The tax and VAT charges are set by Fastspring, the vendor, and adjusted regularly for changes in exchange rates. You'd have to ask them about a particular charge.
