How do I rename libraries, and delete old ones?

Post by lostinasia »

I want to delete old versions of libraries, and rename the one I'm currently using ("Library1 conv conv"). What's the recommended way to do this?

In Library / Application Support / Bookends, I can see "Library1.bdb", "Library1 conv.bdb", and "Library1 conv conv.bdb". I know that if I wanted to, in Finder, I could just delete the older ones, and rename the current one - but is that safe? Does it mess up the database? (iTunes and MacOS Photos have trained me to never mess with files in the Finder, but only within the application).

Or are there menu options within Bookends that I'm missing?

Thanks.

You do it in the Finder (delete, rename). It's quite safe.

OK, thanks! (I assume I need to do this with Bookends closed.)

No need. If you're renaming the currently open library you can close it first if you like, but I don't even think that's necessary (I've never seen any ill effects from renaming a library while it's open, just the file name in the title bar of the library window won't be correct until it's closed and reopened).
