Rename attachments

Post by pgseye »

Hi Jon,
I purchased Bookends and am gla to be leaving the dog's breakfast of Papers3 behind. I imported my 2,500 pdfs into Bookends and it auto-matched about 1/2 so I guess I've got some work ahead of me autocompleting the metadata for the rest. I wanted to ask though - one thing I did like about Papers was that you could rename pdf's on import fairly flexibly. I have used the format first author-date-title-journal. e.g:

Bahrami-2006-Causal Inference in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma Specific Discussion on Intraocular Pressure-Ophthalmic Epidemiology

Is there any way to set this in Bookends?

Yes, it is super flexible in Bookends, you use the Biblio ▶︎ Formats manager... to create a format, here I use author (year) title, and for author I use first and last author names:

Then you select this format in Preferences ▶︎ General and voila!

That looks very promising indeed. But how do I create the new entry? The manual says there should be a "plus" button. But where is this button?

You have window tabbing turned on in System Preferences. That causes the contents at the bottom of the window to be drawn below the lower border. Either increase the window size (grab the lower border and drag downward) or turn off window tabbing in System Preferences.
