Can't replace p- with cited page

Post by bgaia »

Hi,

I made my own format based on the BlueBook style since I am doing a legal research. Bookends is amazing and flexible. However, every time I try to put the cited page in the middle of the final citation, it ends up at the end of it.

the is my Books Citation Formula: a, t $p. ^, pp. $p- `(`l: u, d).
and this is the outcome every time: Joseph C. Krallinger, Mergers & Acquisitions: Managing the Transaction (McGraw-Hill Companies, 1997), p. 23

I do not know what is wrong. please help me fix this issue.

Cited pages are always placed at the end. You can't automatically insert arbitrary text in the middle of a citation.

Having said that, I'll see if I can think of a way to allow this in a future update.

This is a potential solution I'm considering (not implemented):

Allow the use of @ in a format. When present, cited pages will replace the @. For example

Format: a. d. @, t
Temp cite: {Smith, #1232@12}
Result: Smith AT. 2019. p. 12, The mystery of life.

If people think this is worthwhile, I'll work on it.

Hi Jon,

I am working on my Ph.D dissertation, I use multiple kinds of resources like cases and statutes both from the U.S. sources and foreign ones. the BlueBook Style is the main one that is required for legal research citation. This style is complicated because it deals with a lot of information in different ways. So, Bookends is the most advanced reference manager that I have worked with. It is so flexible and I can add all types of data that I need in citations except the location of cited pages which differs from one type to another.

Please help me to finish my dissertation with perfect citations.

Thank you,

Thanks for making this change! It will make a huge difference for anyone using Bookends for legal research.

Does anyone have pre-made Bluebook or OSCOLA formats that they might be willing to share?

I'd be most grateful!

There is a separate thread with an OSCOLA template here:
