Bookends Word plugin not working

Hi,
I've been using Bookends for some time without any issues but now it is failing me and I have no idea why.
When I try to scan a Word document (compiled from Scrivener, if that matters) the Bookends plugin seems to be doing its work at first. That is, it takes me to Bookends where a window opens that lets me choose output parameters; then the scanning occurs (references flashing by); and finally I'm asked what to do about unmatched citations. This is all as I would expect. However, back in Word, nothing seems to have changed: The references are still unformatted placeholders (i.e. in curly brackets), and no bibliography appears either.
Any idea what might be going on here?
I'm on a Macbook Pro running 10.14.4.
I am currently writing up my thesis with the deadline fast approaching, so I would be much obliged for any help you may provide!
