When I export refs, I always use UTF-8 BibTeX. When I just want to visualise formatted refs (formatted ref panel in the UI), or generate a manual Bibliography, I almost always want to use Styled text. But whenever I export it also changes the biblio settings and visa versa, and constantly am switching back and forth between these. I wish that one didn't affect the other, as at least for my needs, export vs. UI/Biblio do not benefit from sharing preferences...

Could these settings be stored separately? Thank you.

Not without major surgery and an overhaul of the UI.

Although we may be able to make it a bit easier by having the Enable BibTex button set the output default to BibTeX.fmt with BibTeX Markup when enabled, and to Styled Text when not (can't change the format automatically because Bookends couldn't guess what you wanted.
