Watch folder duplicates

Whenever I download a PDF to the watch folder, it gets imported with duplicates. All 3 entries will have the name of the PDF with "reference metadata not found online" but only one will carry the attachment. I simply delete the other two and use Autocomplete Paper to retrieve the metadata from google scholar. I'm wondering if there is a way of preventing the automatically duplication or if this is a bug?

Thanks in advance,
M.

It should only import once. Did you configure this to copy the PDF or move it? I'd reboot the computer and try again.

It is configured to move.

This problem is ongoing. Reboots do not seem to fix the problem.

Here is a screenshot of what my imports look like after I've added a few PDFs to the Watch Folder by dragging and dropping or by saving directly from browser to Watch folder.

What OS?

Try with a fresh new database. If it still happens, contact tech support.

Mac OS Catalina 10.15.2

Bookends V. 13.3

When you say database do you mean library? I created a new library with a new watch folder and the first documented imported duplicated.

Yes, library (which is a database).

Sorry, I wasn't aware if Library vs Database were technical distinctions.

I've seemed to resolve the issue. The watch folder was synced to my icloud. I'm not sure how this engages in a replication of the files, but moving the WATCH folder offline to my local harddrive only fixes the duplication issue.

Yes, that will do this. The watch folder for a single user is a *temporary* folder meant to hold the PDF for a few seconds until its imported. It should never by synced. By syncing it you both imported the PDF to Bookends and had macOS move it to the cloud, from which Bookends downloaded it.
