Scan Document with Excel Graphs

Scanning documents on word with Excel Graphs and charts in the document doesn't work. Using a macbook pro and when scanning it allows me to pick the format and then just gives me the spinning wheel for a couple of minutes and then nothing. Once I remove all the graphs, charts, tables etc it scans fine. Is there any option for excluding all graphs charts etc? Or a better workaround. Thanks.
