Automatic merging of journals short and full names

Post by kourosh »

Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyway that I can merge journal short and full names in the “Term List” automatically based Journal Glossary. For example in my journal term list there are “J Urol”, and its full name “Journal of Urology” (there are multiple journals like this which makes it tedious to merge them individually). In the journal glossary there is an entry for this correspondence. Is there anyway that I can merge the two automatically?

Also, is there anyway to convert the two formats automatically on import?
Back to the above example, when I import from PubMed the journal field is “J Urol”. Can Bookends automatically convert it to Journal of Urology defined in the journal glossary?
Thanks

On import, no. In the formatted reference, as in a bibliography, yes. In the format,

j = abbreviated name
f = full name

each version must exist in the glossary, of course, for this to work.

You can also do this in the library itself with a Global Change. But I recommend just letting Bookends do this when it matters, when formatting.
