Greek symbols in title field

Post by everett »

I occasionally have references with titles that contain a Greek symbol. Changing the font to Symbol for one letter in the title doesn't change anything, however the entire title of either of the two adjacent references is converted to Greek! Moving back to the original reference, the letter is successfully converted to a Greek symbol.

Now the second problem: compiling the bibliography in Mellel changes the Greek symbol in the title to a question mark. Checking back in Bookends, the symbol has also been changed to a question mark.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
David.

Hi everrett,

Here are the comments we make about this in our "issues" page (http://www.sonnysoftware.com/issues.html):

"Because of changes to the way fonts are handled in the ATSUI text engine in OS X, you cannot mix Roman and Symbol fonts in the same field (Symbol and Roman fonts have different text encodings). This problem is exacerbated in version 7.5.x, in that any text entered in the alternate font will appear as question marks in both Bookends and any application it is pasted or inserted into.

If you want to use Greek text, you may find that the free Athenian font suits your needs.

Mixing Symbol and Roman fonts is not a problem when using Bookends Classic."

The good news is that Bookends 8 will be Unicode-savvy, so this issue will disappear before long.
