First mention of reference use of first name

Post by larilela »

When I mention a reference for the first time as an in-text reference, I would like the first name to be inserted, too as this is considered proper style in my field. Is there any way to automize this with BE so I don't have to go through an entire 300+ page text and figure out manually each time whether it is the first mentioning ? So if I insert {^Lastname 2020, #2084} I want it to print "Firstname Lastname (2020) ..." - but as mentioned, only in the first instance.

Have you tried this?

Thanks for the helpful reply. I have tried this but it doesn't seem to be working as the first name appears in subsequent citations, too (although I have set subsequent occurrences to "Surname only et al", as per settings adjusted according to your picture), when I leave the fold for subsequent (optional) blank. When I write a, d in the subequent (optional) field, it will yield all citations to include only the last name (although I have indicated authors and editors under "Others like" to be included by full name, and specificied subsequent occurrences as Surname only/Surname et al). I am attaching screenshots for you to see.

On another notes a problem seems to be that I only want first names to be included when the author is for the first named in the text, not when an author is named for the first time in brackets. so {^Author 2020 #123} should yield Firstname Lastname (2020) .... whereas {Author2020 #123} should yield (Author 2020). Any ideas on how this could be implemented?
